May be Gary. I know of someone else on OCN that had the same thing happen and Intel RMA'd it for him. I thought that was just a fluke, but maybe not.

Yep Steve I must have missed it looks pretty ok to me I am assuming of course that it is the replacement thermal? Mind you the seal around the edge looks pretty ordinary eh?
Still am curious to know what Intel actually use of the thermal and if it would be better for them to use a form of that Indigo Extreme inside that case.
Still think he was lucky.

That was the original paste on the CPU. I don't know what brand, but it is supposed to be pretty good stuff. Most people you would expect to know say that Coollaboratory liquid Ultra and liquid Pro are the best. Before I get blasted, that is from OCN, not me saying it.

Yes well Toshiba specify some Japanese stuff on their laptops I cannot remember the name of it but whatever they use is usually like rubber on the GPU chip and hard as hell on the CPU chip which incidentally is the silicon chip and doesn't have a heatsink like normal processors we see. See pic of what my old A200 looked like.
I replace both with Arctic Silver usually but have use Noctua NT-H1.

Just remembered it is Shin Etsu compound Toshiba use.








So if the Toshiba experience is anything to go by Intel could be just as scrimpy with what they use.

Accidentally or on purpose? You would have to believe someone as smart as Intel knew exactly what they were doing.

Seriously Gary and Steve I thought they were almost like one gets with spot welding in car bodies I would not have picked adhesives for a moment. So I suppose using the right solvent one could get away with getting that lid off without making many or any marks at all on the casing.

I am truly surprised as you know what they are like with hard drives and the like with those warning "void if removed" stickers or those bolts with the tiny dab of paint on the head and the case they attach to.
I have seen the blue on the end of the thread in laptops top and bottom plate bolts which is really not apparent until you get the thing out and that would be a dead give away that you had disassembled it or as some form of Loctite solution
