So is this going to be better than a 2nd gen Sandy Bridge decent GPU?

I was interested mainly in the reduced power consumption for it's performance and out of idle curiosity I have to admit

it's better than my Pentium G620's HD 1000. I don't know how much of an improvement it is over HD 3000, but I can wait.

I wouldn't depend on any onboard-chip GPU. I would think any cheap GPU card would be much better.

You can utilize both at the same time i believe. You can run on the onboard video chipset when demands are low and thus save power and heat from your discreet GPU. When you need the power of your discreet card, Windows will just seemlessly switch over to it and you won't even notice. I don't have one of these setup to tell you for sure, but my buddy does and he says it works very well.

I've read that too. I suspect the onboard GPU will run surfing, email, and maybe youtube then the discreet card would kick in for games or perhaps for watching a HD movie.
