"Java Auto Updater" driving me crazy...?

Almost every day a flashing box appears wanting me to let Java update itself.

I even went into the control panel, found Java and told it not to look for updates etc. It totally ignored me and still does it every day.
"Java Auto Updater".

Anyone got a solution that will help me tame this wild horse?

Stop the Java Updater from running at boot in msconfig or any other tool you have loaded for this.

Manually update Java for security reasons

In the control panel under Java, I click on the Update tab and uncheck Check for updates automatically. I click APPLY (and OK) and then come back into it, and I find the box has been re-checked!

If you stop the jushed.exe, it will leave you alone.

Suggestions above should work. Could also try:

Control Panel > Java
Java Control Panel > Update tab
Select from drop list: "Notify Me: Before downloading"
Deselect (uncheck): "Check for Updates Automatically"
Click "Never Check" on pop up
Click "Apply"
Click "OK"

This annoying anklebiting is why many tech enthusiasts don't allow anything in msconfig>Startup except AV and gadgets/stickynotes if used.

Here's the problem with Java Updates. An active script can prompt for an unauthorized "java update". This can be prompted by a plethora of malware entries. Autoupdating when Java prompts, especially after surfing the web is not generally recommended. I suggest updating manually through Java website.

youllbelost completely solved the problem. Followed his solution, and auto update remained unchecked.

I've just signed up to this forum for the sole purpose of saying thanks for sorting this problem that's been driving me mad!

Just like Ziggy1, I've been robotically clicking ok or cancel on that stupid dialog for a year or so!

Hard to find Java Updater on control panel in Vista. It was under <View Additional Options> <32 bit control panel items>. However, it would not open.

The requisite file was under C:\Program Files(x86)\Java\jre7\bin\javacpl.exe. Once again, it would not run, as admin or any other way.:(

Hi,
There is such a thing as a bogus update prompt,
I wouldn't be surprised of a corruption existing because Oracle is on a quarterly update schedule,
Making Java one of the most insecure add-ons to have around,
If uninstalling and re-installing doesn't fix the issue possibly you should do without it,
use Chrome which has the junkware built in,

Temp files delete,
Run this as administrator and Start the scanner,
Shut your machine down after it finishes,

Thanks very much for that very rapid response. When I try to uninstall "java 7 update 60" I get

explorer.exe application error. The instruction at 0x0603ee80 referenced memory at 0x0603ee80 The memory could not be overwritten.

Does this mean my memory is bad?
