I am having an issue with the latest update of Java in Win 7.
I am running Win 7 (64 bit) with IE 9 and also Norton Internet Security 2012
The default version of IE9 is that I have always used in Program Files (x86) folder (32 bit version I believe)
I keep getting asked to run the Java Version checker which tells me there is an updated version that I should instal. It installs but it does not appear to do a Java version check after update like it always has previously. IE add –ons then shows additional entries of Java version 7 update 9
Each time I agree to update, my computer is unable to start at the next switch on, without doing a System Restore, removing the version 7 update 9
Control Panel & IE Explorer show the following (after System Restore)
Under Programs – Java, it shows
Version 6 Update 20
Under Programs – Programs and Features it shows
Java 7 Update 7 (Version 7.0.70)
Java (TM)6 Update 20 (Version 6.0.200)
Java FX 2.1.1 (Version 2.1.1)
In IE 9 add ons it shows
Java Plug-in SSV Helper 7.0.70.10
Java Plug-in 2 SSV Helper7.0.70.10

Does anyone know if there a bug in the latest Java update or is there some other incompatibility that has crept onto my PC

If you so desire to use Java I recommend removing all Jave (ALL). Then go the the Java site and install all new updated Java you need. I have no Java on my computers. Some programs need it and most don't. That is your decision.

I do a couple of things before installing a new Java. First;

uninstall the old one, reboot

Go here and download "JavaRA" which helps uninstall left over items of Java
JavaRa | Free System Administration software downloads at SourceForge.net
Put on desktop

Run the program. Then after running the program, I use Ccleaner to clean up left overs.

Also, do a search of your hard drive for "Java" and you will still find left overs.

Reboot again.

Just like LayBack Bear says, then go to the Java website, download the one you need and then install. Then reboot and make any necessary settings adjustments.
