In where you set the port 3389 (what was the number before you changed it?), is fDenyTSConnections set to 0?

I did not change it, only confirming that in the registry it is set to 3389, my apologies. Need to check on the 0 setting and reply back to you.

Are you using remote desktop on your local network? What OS is on the client and what OS is on the host? Have you enabled both computers for remote desktop?

Both systems are Windows 7 Professional. Firewall is managed through Norton 360. I added mstsc.exe to programs allowed. I even went as far as to remove Norton 360 completely, shutting the computer down, and still no connection. as for remote desktop on my local network, not sure exactly of your question, if you could elaborate.

In the meantime, I have installed Team Viewer and I can connect in using this program but I am using the personal version as I don't want to pay for the business license as I feel this problem can be resolved. I also stated in the threads when I ping this IP address, I am getting replies.

Are you connecting via name or ip?

Can you view a shared directory on either?

No, I did not use the uninstall by Norton, through administrative. The problem is not with the laptop trying to connect because a few days ago prior to installing the new computer, the remote desktop worked fine. If I uninstall Norton 360 through the norton uninstall tool and it works, what setting is incorrect in norton 360 that would be causing the remote desktop not to work?

I have no idea. I don't use Norton at all. If removing Norton does fix things, then you might check a Norton forum to see if someone else has this problem.

I assume you have a workgroup configured, and both computers belong to it? If so, try connecting by machine name. Also, since you reinstalled the OS on one computer, did you verify that both computers are one the same subnet, ie: 192.168.0.x?
