Just Noticed My Restore Points Keep Vanishing

This is strange as I have hidden Win 7 from my XP by altering the registry accordingly in XP yet I just realised that each time I boot into Win 7 there is no restore point.

I have 30% of the drive available which is 34.9gb, probably far too much. The restore point I just created occupies only 74.2mb according to System Protection/Configure.

I'm about to boot over to XP and back and I'm willing to bet that point will have been erased.

You might double check to see if there may be any typos or mistakes made while doing the tutorial.

Well Brink, this is very weird. I've always used that Tute for this purpose. I hadn't noticed but in XP's registry my HKLM\System\MountedDevices where I had the Offline key had become MountedDevices(1) and there was a second MountedDevices below that without the (1).

I stuck my neck out and just deleted the (1) key altogether and reentered the Offline key in the second MountedDevices with DWord \DosDevices\D:, \DosDevices\M: and \DosDevices\N: each with a value of 1, rebooted and now the darned things are well and truly hidden.

I have no idea how that happened.

I might be wrong but I thought the \\DosDevices\\D:"=dword:00000001 was to hid the HD your 2nd Boot OS was on, and the second was to hid the info which is also on the master boot HD. In my case \L: not \D: where OS is stored.

Hi Snuffy,

In step 4D, you would want to substitute the drive letter for what the drive letter is shown as in XP for the OS you want to hide from XP. Is it shown as L: in your XP?

No, maybe that is why my Restore points keep getting deleted.
I'll change that.

Basically you just substitute the correct drive letter for D, in my case there are 3 partitions I wish to hide from XP, so I have 3 entries.
