Since TrendMicro turned out not to play well in 64 bit (at least on MY new system) I'm looking for a more capable replacement than MSE. Kaspersky is rated pretty highly.
what's SevenForums opinion on Kaspersky?

Been using Avira Antivirus Free edition for years now and have yet to be infected with anything since I started using it. There certainly have been attempts, but nothing has been successful. It has a very good heuristic engine.

Kaspersky and PC Tools appear to be the top 2 choices by a half hours intense research. hehe.

I was chattin' with the fellow in the local PC shop recently and mentioned the I'd never been infected w/anything using the Trend Micro. He sez...' that you know of ' ponder that.... lulz

Instead of the 2011 version, go with the 2012 update, either anti-virus or internet security. I've been using Kaspersky for about two years now and never had any infections or stds of such matter. :)

The 2012 version performs WAY better than 2011, it's less system intensive than ever!

It looks pretty.
I use KIS 2012 (patches A and B) and it works great, less resource intensive, and is stable under windows 7. I also run Immunet Protect 3.0.2, Secunia PSI 2.0, and I have SNORT 2.9.0.5 running in OpenSUSE 11.4 under VirtualBox which is monitoring all the inbound and outbound traffic on my home network (thanks to my Buffalo WHR-G54S running DD-WRT v2.4 pre SP2 (Build 14929).

i've also been using the full kaspersky internet security suite happily for years (although i did have a brief flirtation with mse for a month or two), and have had no malware trouble yet.

it has served me well, and the latest 2012 version is the best yet.

however, the only way to find out if you like it is to test it yourself - they have a 30 day trial.

FYI, for those users of KIS 2012, patch 'C' has been released for general consumption. It will require a reboot after being pulled down from the regular update servers.

Issues fixed - Scans of some SSL encrypted sites wasn't working, high CPU usage when visiting some URL's, and optimization fixes as well.

BitDefender: Internet Security Suite 2011 was tops in this test. Kaspersky was in the top 5.

Norton Internet Security enjoys an excellent reputation, too. Starting with the 2009 versions, the program was rebuilt from scratch, making it simultaneously very light and very powerful on the computer. Trialware is available over here:
Download Norton Internet Security, Antivirus or Norton 360

Whichever antivirus software you choose to test, make sure your computer fulfils the minimum system requirements and that you remove any preinstalled antivirus software cleanly.

Happy researching ;-D

You are asking for opinions.
Opinions are not always based on logic.
Most Security Applications are reviewed/ tested at intervals then made available for study.
These can be accessed via Google if you wish.
Remember quite often vested interests have a barrow to push so results may be slanted one way or the other.

You are the best judge of what suits you & your computer at any given time.
Try the free versions { one at a time} of whatever takes your fancy, see how they perform, make a decision & move on.

If / when removing same be sure to use the appropriate uninstall application from the relevant Company.

Good luck.
