Solved KB2604121+KB2468871 update failure+ SFC /scannow failure to repair

I realise I wrote that Microsoft are to phone am tomorrow but in view of the mess I've been left with following their previous involvement, should you still be able to offer any positive guidance please do feel free.

I'm extremely grateful to have any help you can offer.

I'll have a think about it and get back to you, but I'm sure that MS have access to much better diagnostics than I do!

Dear NoelDP, I ended up with Microsoft Support doing a Custom re-install - retain Data and documents but reinstall all programs - just finished the second bit. At least, apart from solving the original problem, I assume I've discarded a lot of detritus accumulated during the last five years. I'd like to thank you very much for all your efforts at solving the problem, though it's a pity that neither of us know what caused it, or Microsoft apparently. Thanks again VERY much

You're welcome - thanks for being patient with my incapabilities, and for coming back to let us know.

Glad MS managed to fix it for you - also glad that it seems I didn't miss something obvious ;)

Good Luck!
