Solved KB4284826 and KB4284842 fail to install (June monthly rollup)

After 4 hours running uninstall cmd with nothing happening I typed exit rebooted entered the windows preparing loop again ie wouldn't boot into os . Performed a system restore via safe mode (3/7/18) all working apart from update problem.

ah - found the problem path incorrect missing
C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing

please rerun Snicks fix, after including Servicing after checksur for the temp file

Hi Loui,

Snicks fix, revised to include Servicing in the path, MUST be on the desktop BEFORE running Surt, it will automatically include it as it designed this way
(remove the old one)

Would also like to check your comps current status

1 Please reboot
2 check if SP1 is installed or not (via installed updates)
3 If so then run Snicks fix
4 Reboot
5 Try the updates

loui, here's the missing files again in servicing/packages, as it is in the Windows folder. Unzip to desktop and run SURT. Apparently Microsoft tech page has the wrong path for placement in temp folder. Yes, their support personnel make error too. Irregardless, it doesn't create another issue other than it doesn't install.
FYI: here's the complete path to where those files are located: C:\Windows\servicing\Packages. SURT will find the folder servicing/Packages on your desktop and place them in the correct location. I knew SFCFix did this now I know SURT does as well.

I, somehow didn't consider SP1 would install over already installed SP1 correcting errors/corruption. Too many hours eyeballing my IT textbooks I assume!

Head is doing fine, and please exercise patients, it always takes what it takes to correct computer issues.
loui, you stated SP1 installed, no need to install it again. My statement in previous post was referring to post #13 when I recommended you use WUSA. I wasn't aware that SP1 wouldn't uninstall if disk cleanup was run and again Microsoft tech page didn't include that info either. I just reread the SURT analysis page in SevenForums Tutorials and the correct path is there. Figures, doesn't it.

Unzip the servicing.zip to desktop and run SURT again, and yes, post log please. As Roy stated and you also stated, it won't uninstall if you've run Disk Cleanup, which you indicated you have. Don't try to uninstall it as you stated it installed correctly.

Roy has been at this for some time, as his post count confirms, I'm 65 and an IT student at a local college, with 4.0 GPA. If you've perused the forum pages, not many even attempt to correct Win Update or BSOD issues. Why? Some of the hardest issues to rectify, and why I enjoy tackling them, because most haven't a clue.

Hi Nic yes I know patience is needed with pc's but they are a real pain as is surt hanging again! When it's run it's course I'll post the log anything I should do when it's finish? On a side note my name is Stuart. Loui is one of my cats.

Stuart, yes, post the log. If you right-click the taskbar, choose start task manager, you can see if the program is still running or it is in (not responding) status.

Worst case scenario, you can Repair Install, How to Do a Repair Install to Fix Windows 7
Repair Install replaces windows 7 OS and leaves everything else intact.

Did you try Windows Update yet. If not, see if it runs without errors now. If you still receive error, post CBS.log and WindowsUpdate.log again please.

Download the bold kbs and place on your desktop you want the x64 versions
KB4284826
KB4284842
Then click on link below
Windows Update - Reset
Choose option three
try installing updates again starting with the kb ending in 26 then kb ending in 42
If still error,
Start Windows 7 in Safe Mode and try to install them again kb ending in 26 and then kb ending in 42
Still error, post WindowsUpdate.log please.
