So my mother was recently using my laptop and she messed up how it types and keybindings. For example when I type "e" instead of the letter e I get 3. Or typing t gives me 5. There are others as well. I was looking onlihe how to fix this but none of the solutions work for me. As I type Im not even using my keybored because it is so bugged, but an online keybored. Please help.

Hello doneill2000,

It seems your grandma enabled the numpad of your keyboard.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Num_lock

Push the Numlock key to see if it can fix your problem.
If you can not find it, see if there is a Function key (F1-F2,etc) with a small image which looks like 'Tic Tac Toe' on one of them.

Once you found it, hold FN and push the F(num) key to enable/disable numpad.

Ok, do you have this same issue of you open Notepad and write in it?

Also can you check in 'Control Panel' > 'Regional and Language options':
Add keyboard languages to XP, Vista, and Windows 7
Check and see if your keyboard layout is set to English (US).

Also it would be handy to check if any strange programs are active which changes the layout.

Its the same in notepad, and I noticed no strange issues when looking at the input. It is English. Would switching languages reset the keyboard? If so how, I can add languages but cant type it on my keyboard.

Ok, do you have a external usb keyboard lying around?
Could you input it and see if it does the same, this way we can see if it could be a defect Keyboard?

If it does the same, please go try a reset of the Keyboard driver as follows.
Open to Device manager:

001.png

Then select your laptop keyboard under 'Keyboards':

DKf8S.png

After removal go to the tab 'Action' and select 'Scan for hardware changes'

Can you try a System restore from the time before you had this issue?
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/700-system-restore.html

Your personal files will not be affected, but programs and maybe updates will have to be reinstalled.
If that does not fix you issue, start System restore again and select 'Undo System Restore' to bring everything back to original.

Futher then that i can not help, maybe someone more knowledgeable could help you then.
