Keyboard Gibberish

Brand new HP p6204y
Keyboard types Gibberish ...
Tried the original USB keyboard .. and a PS2 Keyboard ..
Same Gibberish .. Key for Key ..

I'm at a loss where to start looking ???
Any Ideas ???

Try help and support, keyboard, change keyboard layout, I think that is the key to your problem

Please try the below solutions:

Open up the Control Panel. This can be done by either pressing win+r and typing "control" (without quotes) or going to My Computer and clicking "Control Panel" in the Other Places area on the left.

Look for "Regional and Language Options." The categories are alphabetized, so finding it shouldn't be hard. Once you find it, double-click on it. A window should come up with the tabs "Regional Options," "Language Options," and "Advanced" at the top.

Look in the "Regional Options" tab, you should find a pull down menu, some "samples," and another pull down menu. Make sure that both menus are set to your region's settings.

Click on the "Customize" button next to the first pull down menu. Sometimes these settings can interfere with your keyboard.

Make sure that, at the bottom of the "Customize" dialogue, your measurement system is set to whatever system your region uses. Once that tab in "Customize" is all set, move over to "Currency," "Time," and "Date," making sure that their settings are correct.

Click "Apply" for both the Customize window and the Regional and Language Settings window.

This is a friends computer .. and he didn't know how to put in mail ... clean out the HP trash ... etc ..
(not sure I can do better ??)

I knew the keyboard had to work at one time ... Or he couldn't have got it running.
He must have answered the wrong question .. When he fired it up.

Hi noyb,

You appear to have the Right-handed Dvorak layout active. If you look at the upper keyboard layout in the image below and compare it with a standard one, you will see a direct correspondence between what you think you typed and what was actually displayed on screen.

YUP .. That was it.
He called me when he got it ... and I remember he was asking me a bunch of questions ...

One answer that I remember giving him .. Are you right handed ??

This is a replacement for his other HP that has had the HD changed 3 times...
the PSU once ... and the MOBO once ...

I suspect the problem is him .. and not HP

I also Emailed HP ... They said this would require advanced support ...
And they would get back to me in 2 or 3 days.

Update ... HP Just Emailed and said ...
Jay, I do apologize for the inconvenience and the delay in resolving the issue.
I would suggest you to try to change the font and then try to type.
Also type in to a notepad and then check whether you are facing the same issue or not.
