keyboard help

i only have use of one hand but keyboard requires me hold down the FN key to use my multimedia keys .
does anyone have tips or holding down this key permanently?

Now I am sorry you have this problem mate and apart from the ruddy obvious of say using some Blu Tak or getting someone to supa glue a strip of plastic stuck to the edge of the board which in turn holds it down the FN key I found this and maybe this might just be a a non physical fix - look at the bold typed answer ticked solution How do I lock and unclock the FN key? - HP Support Forum - 45847

You can try a w7 feature called Sticky Keys which allows keyboard shortcuts like, Ctrl/Alt/Del to be pressed one at a time.
Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Ease of Access Center\Make the keyboard easier to use and check Sticky keys, Apply/OK and try it. I'm unsure if this works with the Fn keys on a laptop though.

Just for everybody's information I use sticky keys and the Fn button does not work with sticky keys.

It is simple if you use the on-screen keyboard that you find in Accessories > Ease of Access. There you can activate multiple keys by just clicking on them one after the other.

You can even use a combination of on-screen and your real keyboard. Once you activated the Fn with on-screen, then use the real keyboard for the multimedia.

Nice one mate. Just for future reference does that FN key correspond to any of the current keyboard layouts as apart from my laptops I don't have that key?

Fn keys are unique to laptops. I suspect because they often have a smaller keyboard than the standard 103 or 104 key, board.
They are used for such things as screen brightness or turning the wireless adapter on and off.

On my Logitec keyboard for my desktop there is a Fn key. It is also on the on-screen keyboard.

My M$ Sidewinder X6 has more keys than it could be possible to use and no FN but my Toshiba laptop has both the FN and the F1 - 10 keys.

I have an idea though that the old PS/2 KB's had FN on them but without digging it out could not swear to it.
Yes the onboard KB toggles FN on right side thr F keys at top - done using the on screen KB.
