Keyboard typed text has delayed appearance on screen

[FONT=&quot]Problem: slow response of text typed on the keyboard appearing on the screen. The slow response applies to just about any program, commands, cut & paste text or other text selected with the mouse. If it is keyboard typed text it is delayed.[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]I have a desktop with WIN 7 Ultimate, I have 8 Gig Ram, i5 -2 Gig processor, 1TB Disk drive. I notice no other changes in performance. Virus scans (Avira, Malware Bites, Webroot Secure Anywhere), show no virus or malware.[/FONT]


[FONT=&quot]Details: The longer I use Win 7, the longer the delay. Specifically, typed text begins to show a lag before it appears on the screen and mouse generated commands also show a lag before the finish of execution. The lag is not program dependent; typing text into an email, a Word document or any other document has the same delay. Same applies for mouse commands; selecting an email document to open, tapping “enter” to change web pages or the “save” command in Word – all have the same delay. The delay becomes several seconds and only about the first 4 or 5 typed characters appear. Several seconds later the remaining typed characters will appear, but not all characters of a long sentence.[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]I can “shut down” and restart and the delay in not immediately present, but after several minutes of use, the delay starts and continues to get longer.[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]Would appreciate any trouble shooting procedures or suggestions. After a while the delay makes the computer just about unusable[/FONT]

To this old tech, it's more or less obvious, that some program running in the background is in High Priority mode and slowing down the rest of the PC.
I had a similar problem with Firefox. An UN-Install and RE-Install of Firefox fixed the problem.

So, you need to go into the Task manager and see what's running and shut down anything that you don't absolutely NEED to be running all the time.

I have to do that on every PC that I work on. Most people have NO idea what they have running all the time in the background. Sometimes I shut down a dozen or more background programs, that really DO NOT need to be running.

Multi-Tasking sounds great in theory, but the truth is that a CPU can only do one thing at a time. Give it too many things to do and something is going to have to WAIT.

You can also clean up your PC, by deleting all temp files, etc. If you lived close by, I'd gladly fix that thing for you. It's what I've done for over 30 years now.

Thanks for the reply and information. Sounds like you are on East Coast-- local time on post looks to be 3 hours ahead- I am on West Coast--That would be a long trip. I will do what you suggest, using Task Manager. Also sounds like a look at the Start Menu would also help. Is there a "good" web page or reference that can list what is minimally required for WIN 7 Ultimate start menu? I do use CCleaner in the "non aggressive" mode. I would not want to delete some program and then not be able to boot.
