This may not be a Windows 7 Home Premium issue but someone may be able to help anyway.

Since replacing my XP laptop with a new Gateway NV52 laptop I've been noticing that, when typing online forum posts (on one particular forum site, using Firefox) I'll suddenly find that I've hit some key or keys (or something?) that takes me back a page and I lose everything I've typed. I've tried to figure out what I could be doing on the keyboard but haven't been able to, though it seems to happen most when I'm typing rapidly, and I know that the heel of my right hand may sometimes hit some key or the mousepad or the right click bar.

Any ideas?

Wow. Could be several things I suppose. Don't know how good a typist you are, but if I try to type real fast I make mistakes and hit the backspace fairly often. If you were typing and brushed the track pad and focus got taken out of the text box, backspace would take you back a page. I've had the problem of typing in a box and when I brush the pad, focus gets taken elsewhere on the page. Just one guess... I guess. ;)

If this is the problem, maybe there is a way to adjust the sensitivity of the pad.

Backspace is the "back" key

garysgold make have the answer. Since I use a wireless mouse most of the time I'm going to disable the mousepad and see if that stops it.......... though I can't think of where the cursor could be going that it would take me back a page in the browser.

If your typing in a text box like here and the mouse jumps up or down out of the text box and clicks, you would no longer be in the text box, but on the main page. Hitting backspace would then take you back a page.

Could this be caused by touching the mouse pad which causes the pointer to move?

Do you have Tap to click enabled on your mouse pad? If so, disable it, that might help.

Same Thing

I know this is an old thread, but my gateway laptop does the same thing. In fact it just did it while typing this. What the heck is it?
