Got a 3930k/RIVE/GTX580/16gb ddr3 1600Mhz and am suffering choppy frame rates when dragging mainly chrome windows/tabs containing flash content and Microsoft Security Essentials. I'm running with everything stock, but have tried with the XMP profile set...same outcome?? This system should be a beast...why the lag?

If it helps...or makes sense to anyone, it seems the lag occurs when part of the window goes off the edge of the screen, mainly noticeable at the bottom; weird I know!

Hi

Whats the temps when these cards are running on load ???

Try running the stress test ..

During stress test the cards should level out in the area of 60 to 65 deg C .... if it keeps on increasing you have a problem....

Let u know

This is just on the desktop sitting idle, with one Google chrome tab open, containing flash content. It seems that Microsoft Security Essentials stutters a bit on all Win7 machines, when you drag it off the visible display area. The Chess game also does it a bit. Chrome is different though it stutters/lags loads when you do the same with windows containing flash content; Firefox and IE9 don't have this issue, neither does V20 of Chrome...must be a bug.

CPU is 29c and GPU is 39c, when idle doing this.

I have seen aero lag when vram is filled up. If you have lots of apps/windows open this maybe what has happened, gpuz will tell you your vram load. However I see you said you dont have much running so is a weird one.

Not really, it isn't that the actual video lags or stutters, its the actual Chrome browser which lags when a tab containing any kind if flash content is dragged off the viewable screen area. I've since managed to work out that it is the pepper flash plugging they've recently added, if I disable it but leave the other flash plugin enabled the issue completely disappears. I've found the issue to be present on a number of other Win7 machines, it's obviously a bug; I think it maybe a bit easier to spot on my rig as I have a high poll rate and dpi set on my mouse, that and the fact everything otherwise glides on a 3930k/GTX580.

As for MSE and things like chess skipping, this is far less drastic and again happens on the other systems I've tested; I can't deny though, it is odd. The one that really gets me is iTunes; when on the majority of tabs (music etc) no stuttering at all, go to the store and the stuttering is there. Why not go ahead and try it, go to the iTunes store and drag iTunes around with the window partially off the screen...bet it stutters?

Update your Win 7

Use the enclosed procedure This is VERY important Only then do we know that you have a system that is solid.

UPDATING YOUR WIN 7
1. ASSURE THAT YOU RECEIVE ALL UPDATES
WIN | type WINDOWS UPDATE | ENTER |
Change settings (left-hand column) |
checkmark all four of the boxes | OK
button

Approve any dialog boxes presented. Let Windows install any update features.

WIN is the key with the Microsoft flag on top.

2. INSTALL CRITICAL UPDATES
Check for Updates
(left-hand column)
Install ALL critical updates.
Restart your computer (even if not prompted)

Repeat this procedure until there are no more critical updates.

DO NOT TRUST the “Windows is up to date” in center of dialog. until you see that TWICE IN A ROW!

3. INSTALL IMPORTANT UPDATES
Use the “critical update” procedure until all important updates are installed.

4. INSTALL OPTIONAL UPDATES
Under Optional updates you will be presented with:
a) Microsoft Bing Desktop which is of questionable value
b) a list of about 34 language updates.

You can hide those updates so that aren't continually notified of those updates.
When you click on 34+ optional updates are available, then you
a) highlight all of the language updates,
b) right-click anywhere in the highlighted list.
c) click on Hide Updates,
d) OK button.
Install ALL other Optional Updates.
Use the “critical update” procedure.

UPDATE GOLDEN RULES

Install ALL, yes, ALL updates.
This is Win 7 and not Vista or XP (eXPired).

UPDATE IS HUNG –TAKING FOREVER
Hung is very doubtful unless you interrupted updates.

CTRL + SHIFT + ESC key combo will pop-up the Task Manager.
Lo and behold, Windows Update is still running!

You hold down the CTRL and SHIFT keys.
While holding them down, tap the ESC key once.

================================================

After updating,,then also update your system specs to reflect that SP1 has been installed.
