LAN port speed

On my new Asus M4N78 Pro mobo it says it a gigabit port. When I look in the network settings view status I see that I'm at 100 mbs when I should be at 1000 mbs. When I click the property tab I see the NVidia nforce 10/100/1000 Mbps adapter below that the configure tag. When I click on the configure tab there is nothing to configure. I've also looked in the bios and can't find anything for changing the lan port. I must be missing something.

My gigabit Ethernet NIC is running at 100 Mbps with my Router. Unless you have a router or broadband modem with a 1000 Mbps port you will never get that fast. As Ethernet LANS and broadband links are way below the 100Mpbs speed you will never even reach the 100 Mpbs link speed.

So if I switch out my router to one that supports gigabit ethernet, theoretically I should run at gigabit speed. If I understand what your saying.

Does the indicated speed changes when you using power mains and not using mains?

I have a desktop which is on the AC mains all the time.

Keep in mind, as I said before, what speed your broadband link and router are working at is well below the 100 Mb/sec so having a gigabit link between you and the router is not going to make ANY difference.

I don't think you can actually achieve 1000Mbps. Maybe on fibre optics cabling but you will need adequate hardware to go with it.

yeah all my network is gigabite speed and it won't use all of it, the highest i have ever got it at one fie was 89 meg and thats about normal, actually high but anyways...

I have the gigabite to push more traffic through becuase i do alot of multimedia
