Laptop fan makes high pitch noise, fan wearing out?

Right sorry late reply mate - you need to have a look around that fan to find the four silver screws described in the disassembly guide. It is at step 29 Toshiba Satellite L655 L655D L650 L650D disassembly Now obviously if I had it in front of me I could tell as I am not sure if that grey cover just pops off or is removed by what looks like the retaining screw holes. See the pic and hopefully there are screws on this side rather than having to flip the board out.

It's too difficult, I broke the touchpad while doing it, I'm not going to take it apart again. Thanks for the replies, but if someone knows if you can re-attach the connector that would be great. It's the light colored part with the teeth that clamps the ribbon down.

See how the plastic tab with the teeth has come out?
I'm not sure how to put it back on.
The tab itself isn't broken, so there might be a way to attach it again?

Ok mate now I am assuming that white piece slides in that orientation? or does it turn at 90 degrees to the black part with the metal connections? If it is actually broken completely it might mean fixing down with a small piece of that duct tape that has cloth embedded in it.
I know that sounds a bit bodgy but gluing is but would not be an option (for me). I find that tape lasts very well inside machines if one needs to use it and it takes very little space.

I noticed the part was loose when I was reassembling, so I tried to use a screwdriver to push it in some ways, but the screwdriver slipped and knocked it out. The tab lifted up at 90 degrees, when it was attached.

Thank goodness for that mate it didn't really look that broken to me and lie the info from that site for newbies and like I always tell folks you need to be super careful with those ribbon cables fixing points.

Thanks I'll put it back together and see if the touchpad works. I'll be extra careful with the ribbon connectors next time, but it's hard to tell sometimes whether they flip open or just slide out. They should make them all the same!

Alright, I put it all back together and it's working properly, including the touchpad I couldn't figure out how to remove the fan but I probably will if I look at some guides. It still makes the noise but cleaning it will hopefully fix it. Thanks for the help ICit2lol

I shone a light through the vents and I saw quite a bit of dust in there.

Ok mate just be careful cleaning those fins in that rad I use pipe cleaners to loosen the crud from the outside then blow out from the fan side with a compressed air can - but do be careful to hold the fan blades still as the air will spin the fan in excess of what the bearing is designed to take and may wreck it.

Personally I use a small piece of sheer curtain material taped over the fan inlet on this machine (Toshiba L550) to catch the crud before it can get near the fan and / or rad. But any fine weave material will do as long as you can see through it
