Laptop hard drive died :(

So my laptop hard drive finally died after 5 years....

So me being clever decided to install Ubuntu on my external hard drive and now my laptop lives on,..

It's a spare machine. I don't really have the need to do this lol. But a good suggestion.

What was the hdd that died ?
I had a 6 y.o. Hitachi that died but win-10tp killed that one

Yep that is ironic
5200rpm I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did
I did add a ssd in it and it's amazing what that actually did for it in general performance
I first had a 256 mx100 in it then realized I didn't need that much space and got a 128 mx100 instead for it and that's perfect disk space wise for what it's used for.
Super fast

I have Linux mint 17.1 on a flash drive that I use on it too

Yeah I was also surprised mine lasted so long. The machine was always in use and on for 3 months solid most of the time. I now have 4 machines including this 'spare' one so can't really justify the cost of adding a SSD lol. I only use the machine for testing and running bit.
