Laptop has been shutting down for 7 hours after update, please help!

Thank you for taking the time to view this! So here's the story.

This morning, I turned on my laptop, and windows configures some updates that has been installed yesterday. After a while, it says: "Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer.". After some time, it seems to start normally, I can use my laptop and all. But when I was using my laptop at this time, windows start to download more updates. Then I shut down my computer, and windows start to install like 150 updates. It takes hours to complete all of these installations, and when it finally shuts down, it just stays on the shutdown screen. It has been 7 hours now, and I don't know what to do. Should I just hold down the power button? Or is there another way?

Here are the details of the laptop. The reason why I didn't include this information when I created my account here on the forums was that I don't know which of these is the graphics card, hard drive, etc. I don't know much about computers. Anyway, here's what's written on it:
-Intel Core i5-460M processor
-ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 up to 2651mb HyperMemory
-640 GB HDD
-Acer Nplify 802.11 b/g/n

There's more if you'd like.

Oh, a few more things. My internet connection on my house is very slow, about 0.3mbps, and sometimes it disconnects. I wonder if the updates can get corrupted because of this. And before this incident, I notice on the update history that the status on at least half of the updates are "failed" since 2011.

Hello Slimefon,

7 hours is certainly a long time for updates to install..

I would say it's best to power it down manually and when Windows boots up, please click the start menu, type Event Viewer and hit enter. Click the drop down icon to the left of custom views, right-click administrative events and select save all events in custom view as. Choose a file name for it and save it in your desired location.

Please upload the files to a sharing site, such as OneDrive then provide me with the link.

Thank you for your reply! I gave it a few more hours, and it is still on the shutting down screen, so I decided to hold down the power button. After that, I turned it back on, and then it started doing those "Applying update operation" and "Configuring Windows updates". Nothing out of the ordinary like "Failure configuring Windows updates" popped up. Then the computer seem to start normally, and decided to download even more updates. I'm starting to get annoyed by these updates.....

I shut down my computer again to install the updates, it's like 80 or so, and then I left my computer behind. After some time, when I check back the computer is somehow on the "starting windows" screen, and then a "failure to configure windows update" showed up again. The computer then plays normally, but suddenly a "windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown" message appears. Here's what the details says:

I'm guessing a blue screen of death occurred while I left the laptop behind. Arrrgh, and now windows wants to install more updates on shutdown. I'm getting sick of these failed updates, I think turning the updates off would be for the best. What do you guys think?

Sorry for posting a lot. Anyway, I noticed a few more entries on the event viewer after this blue screen incident, and I also noticed one of the events are marked as critical. (Kernel-Power Event ID 41, Task category (63)).

Update: I noticed that after this incident I can't open PNG files, until I told windows to use windows photo viewer to open the file. Usually it's not like that, of course.There could be more anomalies.

Hello Slimefon,

Please navigate to C:\Windows\Minidump and zip up all the dump files which are located there, then upload them to OneDrive.

For the Windows Update issue, please press the Windows Key + R, type services.msc and press enter. Navigate to Windows Update, right-click it and select stop.

Then navigate to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore, delete all the folders and files which are located in it. After doing that, navigate to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download and delete all the files and folders in it.

Please press the Windows Key + R, type services.msc and press enter. Navigate to Windows Update, right-click it and select start.

Let me know if you still experience the issues with Windows Update
