Laptop keep turning off itself

So, I have a toshiba satellite M200 laptop. Core 2 duo T7250, and has 3G of DDR2 Ram. I was fine while using windows vista. but since I upgrade it to windows 7 ultimate 64bit, my laptop start turning off itself, especially when I do alot of work at the same time, so can anyone tell me what's the problem? Is it because my system requirement is not enough? or I need to install any software to make them compaitble together?

Go to search, and type event viewer and locate the reason. Look for errors
You can also use the performance monitor.

Out of curiosity, were you running Vista 32- or 64-bit?

Make sure all your drivers are up to date:

Can you monitor your temperature? Could be shutting down if it's too hot.

Are you running any firewalls, AVs, etc? Please list. In fact, run msconfig and get a screen capture of your startup.

I forgot, I guess is vista 64bit. And I dun think it shut down because of too hot. Yes, i am running firewall and AVG fre antivirus. how do u run msconfig?

How do you know it's not overheating? My Toshiba laptop would shut down when it overheated. I had to disassemble it to clean the cooling fins (they were almost completely blocked and it was not discernibly obvious by looking at the exterior) - problem immediately solved. The caked up gunk, I'm sure, built up over time in the humid environs in which I live. I transported my laptop at least 3 times a week to client's offices and it was regularly exposed to 80 percent humidity and 100 degree temps outside transitioning to 50 percent humidity and 75 degree temps inside.

I was not aware of the overheating issue until it happened because I had not been monitoring my CPU temps. Use CoreTemp to determine your TjMax and how closely you are approaching it.

Below you can see my current CoreTemp view as I type this post. The 79 you see is the temperature away (in degrees Fahrenheit) from TjMax of each core and the 1.2 you see is the current clock speed:


When my laptop was overheating and shutting down, that 79 degree value would often plunge to 20 or even 17 before bailing out.

Your system should be able to run Win 7 Ultimate x64 with no issues. Drivers should not be an issue with your system either.

Oh yeah, my Toshiba laptop also would only shut down when I was doing a lot of work. The biggest impact on CPU temp came when watching videos. Otherwise, it ran fine!
