Laptop screen goes black and everything freezes

Hi everyone,

I have a Fujitsu Siemens SA 3650 laptop and I am experiencing the following problem.
First of all my touchpad had stopped working so i took the laptop to the service provider and they changed the touchpad. ( I am refering this so as to mention that they opened the laptop).
After that i noticed that randomly and rarely my laptop screen goes black (not total black because i see a white light into the black) and the pc freezes completely.
I have to press the power button in order to turn off the computer and when i turn it on its ok for a few hours untill it freezes again.
If I have an mp3 playing the music stops when the screen goes black so the pc freezes completely.
The CPU temperature is normal around 50 C. This happenes no matter what i am doing.
My laptop is still under guarantee so the cost will not be a problem, but i im asking here in order to know what the problem might be. Did they do something wrong at the service while opening the laptop?

Can you tell us what antivirus are you using?

Upload a screenshot of your hard disk using crystal disk info:

For monitoring the heat/celsius of the system, use Speccy or HWinfo:

• CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting

Run the System File Checker that scans the of all protected Windows 7 system files and replaces incorrect corrupted, changed/modified, or damaged versions with the correct versions if possible:

Please upload your msinfo32.nfo file. To get this:

(1) Click on the Start rb:
(2) Type msinfo32 into the Search programs and files box
(3) When it opens, go to File, Save
(4) Save as msinfo32.nfo and save in a place you will remember
(5) Let it finish the process of gathering and saving the system info
(6) Right click the .nfo file, click send to compressed (zipped) folder
(7) Upload the .zip file here​

- I am using Eset Antivirus 5.0.95 version.

- I ran System File Checker and it did not report any problem.

Hi jo,

I took a quick look at the System info you supplied and noticed that Furmark.exe crashed.

Look in control Panel -> Features & Programs for furmark or Geeks3d Furmark.
If it is something you installed and use, see if there is an update.

If you don't recognize it and have never used it yourself, it is possible that the service center placed it on your machine to test it. Uninstall it, reboot and see if that helps.

Hi jo65947 and Welcome to Seven Forums.
I suspect the "techs" have done something inside the case to foul up the graphics. Since it is under warranty I would waste no time on it and take it back for replacement.

Slartybart discovering that Furmark had crash points to that.

Hi everyone and thank you for your help.

I installed Furmark after i noticed the problem, in order to check/stress my video card.
PC crashed (black illuminated screen with PC frozen) while i was stressing my video card but in the last times it has not. The problem did not begin by installing FurMark.

It kept crashing while it was idle. The big problem is that it has not crashed the last one day at all.

So I am confused, I would prefer it to keep crashing in order for the techs to identify the problem.
I am waiting for it to crash or keep crashing more often in order to be able to send it back.

Any more suggestions?

The last 3 times (today) I ran FurMark Burn-in test (stability test) in 1280x800 resolution, the laptop froze and I had to shutdown the pc by pressing the power button.
In the last one the screen went black too and the pc froze as well.
Is this normal?
I am asking because my video card is ATI RAdeon HD 3200 (weak), maybe its too weak for the test?

I think the GPU is bad, Furmark should run at lower settings. No, that's not normal.

I'm no GPU expert, but I think there are settings for resolutions and anti aliasing (AA).

Resolution is at 1280x800 (full)

► First of all .... July version of ATI display driver .... one of the most problematic thing I can say. Update it. if there is no stable version available (not being a ATI user, I am not sure) use any available beta.

During July, a lot of Crashes on ATI display driver we dealt. But now those disappeared.

► Ethernet driver, Realtek RTL8168D/8111D Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC. It also needs update.

Driver    c:\windows\system32\drivers\rt64win7.sys (7.46.610.2011, 526.60 KB (539,240 bytes), [COLOR=Red]10-Jun-11[/COLOR] 6:34 AM)

Get it from Realtek.

► Sound driver, Realtek High Definition Audio Function Driver is even old.

Uninstall those.

Does it change anything there?

In the problem now...
I updated network and sound card drivers.
I also updated synaptics driver but in the msinfo32.nfo it still has the old version..

I dont know why....(I uninstalled the old one, reboot, install new driver)

Ati driver is the newest there is. There is no beta. Should I install an older one?

I uninstalled daemon tools lite and pc tools registry mechanic.
Do you have any suggestion for registry cleaning tools?

I will run the FurMark again to see how it goes and I will report.

As I have told, I am not an ATI user, I dont know about the availability of the drivers, but in many a threads, the OPs told me that there is a beta later to July. If you canot get it, get an earlier one, but get rid of this one installed.

only one cleaner I'd recommend, that is CCleaner.

Let us know how the system is working after all those.

I might be to help more on the AMD/ATI issue - I might not be the best on this, but have solved a number of issues on my own machines using AMD graphics. Let's see what I can uncover.
For now I'll just post the reference sheet for jo's machine now while I do some research.

I do have one question for jo - do you recall where the current driver came from? I've had mixed results using Windows updates for hardware. sometimes WU gets it right, other times it gives me the wrong driver. It's probably a good idea to roll back the driver as Arc suggests.
