Solved laptop slower since MSE found a potential threat (and didn't deal??)

Mmmm......check your Startup and Services items in MSConfig, and post a listing of what's in there please.

Here's the Startup list. The Services list is a lot longer, is there any way to expand that window or easily copy the contents other than print screen successive windows (as I did for startup)?

Would there be any significance in this little pop up MSE window that I see a bit of now - at least once every time I have my laptop on. It's only appeared since this issue arose, I've never seen it before then.

Turn off MSE for now.

Make a list of all the HP items in Startup and uncheck them. Save the config, and reboot. Is the boot any quicker?

Did that, unchecked three items but it hasn't made any difference
should I recheck them again?

Have you tried defragging your hard drive? You should do this for atleast once per 2 weeks.

Roaster I looked at Defragmenter, it last ran 12 May.

C: was 1% fragmented so I defragged that.

System is 7% fragmented and when I try to defrag it the process won't complete. I've tried a few times.

ETA it's ok, the process stopped properly after 50 minutes.

Thanks Golden, I started to follow the instructions then realised because of my slow internet I should take my laptop to the local library to use their quick internet. So I cancelled my download and got this. It's been like this for at least half an hour. Can I ignore the warning and shut down to take to the library?

Have followed the tutorial, completed the Boot trace and compressed the ETL file. I don't know where to upload to a third party site as the links in the tutorial aren't working.
