laptop sound card

hi, my laptop, it is very old. the sound card has just stopped working on it just recently. before i connected it through a line out lead from the headphone jack to an amplifier. will a usb sound card to do the trick?

Yes, if you can find one. SoundBlaster used to make a USB connected sound card and it had the speaker connection on it. Check out the Soundblasters at www.creative.com
