Laptop TV Hookup

Hi,

I'm using an Aspire 7741Z-5731 with Windows 7 and am attempting to connect it to a tv so that I may watch youtube videos and such on the bigger screen. I have a High Resolution VGA converter and am using an s-video cable. I've attempted a connection on various tvs with only a blank screen until I used my parents newer tv and got a screen that is constantly distorted/shaky and with a scrolling black line pushing the picture down the bottom of the screen to appear at the top. I've messed with the screen resolution and refresh rate continuously with various changes in the screen, but with no clear picture. If anyone can give any advice I'd seriously appreciate this. I've been messing with this for two or three weeks and I don't plan on getting a new tv for a while. We have tons of them already lol.

also, when some resolutions show a slightly clearer image, I can only see one side of the windows screen, not the entire display.

I have never tried what you are doing, but maybe this will help; How To Connect Laptop To TV | Geek with Laptop I think your problem may have something to do with the screen resolution set on your laptop

As pooch suggested, you probably need to adjust the screen resolution in Windows. For more information, see Getting the best display on your monitor.

You might need to reconnect the computer to your monitor and adjust the screen resolution before you connect to your TV.

Hi there.

Even the LARGE (> 32 inch) TV's from LG have "RGB" inputs as well as DVI, AV (the old fashioned Video in, analog LH and RH sound), Component, SCART, and HDMI.

To use your laptop with one of these as a monitor connect the VIDEO MONITOR cable from your PC to the TV and select the RGB input via the TV's remote.

This is usually the socket on your laptop that is a 3 row 15 hole one (5 holes per row) and used to be coloured BLUE on a lot of computers and laptops.

Press say F5 (or other key --usually marked) to switch off the laptops own monitor and then you can use the max resolution your video card and monitor is capable of.

Works a treat --- say on a 22 inch monitor the resolution at something like 1980 * 1080 (depending on the video your laptop is capable of providing) and the size of the external monitor screen) and it works fine.

You probably won't be able to squeeze much over 2560 horizontal width video setting from a typical laptop video card - but you'd only really need that when using a 40 Inch screen.


These TV's can work as "TV's" as well -- best of both worlds. No need to disconnect the computer -- the remote will "flip it" instantly. LG did their homework on this function properly.

Incidently they also have separate Audio out (headphone socket) and Audio input via a jack so you can route the computer INPUT sound to the monitor and then route the output to a decent set of speakers.

I don't know about other makes but the LG TV's work an absolute treat when you want to use them as PC monitors as well as TV sets.

If you have a high resolution video card you can connect the HDMI card to the TV giving fantastic HD quality video too.


To anyone thinking of buying a new LCD TV these days -- check and see if it's suitable also as a PC monitor -- you can easily check this by looking to see if it has an RGB input. The price differential between TV's that CAN be used as a PC MONITOR and those that can't is fairly small so no point in buying one that doesn't have the capablility.
