Laptop will not reboot (freeze) when a new OEM battery inserted.

Hi Admin and Forumers,

I have an issue with my Dell Inspiron 14R-i5-1st generation motherboard Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit in which the new battery I've bought (an OEM 3rd party battery, NOT a Dell Battery from online store) causes my laptop reboot to freeze at startup, unable to proceed to windows startup.

For your knowledge, I've been using the laptop plugged in to wall (no battery, as the battery died many months ago) until recently, it's time for me to get a new battery so it would make my life easier during travel.

When I removed the new battery, the laptop can reboot normally. I went to several PC shops, trying all available OEM, they all show similar symptom, the Windows freeze (will NOT go beyond the DELL logo) at the moment the Power Button pressed. Remove the new battery it will go normal boot again. I guess the laptop doesn't want a battery anymore (haha). I even tried using a new Dell adapter to narrow down the issue but still similar problem occur.

There are few theories I can think off;

1) All OEM battery is NO good - but that's is not entirely true. They're a lot of other Dell and Laptop users using replacement OEM (3rd party) battery and it works fine as the original.

2) One of the technicians thinks that this could be related to the motherboard issue (I've had a major motherboard repair months ago when the old battery died on me - coincidence?) But I had the motherboard repaired with a Dell Official service center. They've used a refurbished motherboard (surprisingly) to replace the old one. The only problem is that; I should have replaced the battery when I had the motherboard repair done! My mistake.

3) One good news, I manage to return the battery and got a full refund. I'm thinking of buying Dell's Original Battery from the Online Store but something tells me I will still have similar problem... need some advice before I can proceed.

4) Or, could be there is "SOME MAGIC" Forumers from "sevenforums.com" can do to assist this noob

Anyone else with similar or almost similar issue like mine?

OK, OEM stands for "Original Equipment Manufacturer", and that will be Dell.
By definition a third party manufacturer (or second party for that matter) can not be an OEM.

So what you bought was a replacement battery from a (second party) manufacturer or a (third party) reseller. Some 3rd party resellers are not so reputable.

You can have good results buying a replacement battery if you check to make sure the output voltage, amperage, and connector (the connectors are slightly different and usually color coded) are all exactly the same as the Dell original battery. You can read this info on the label on the bottom of the battery.

Some of the better replacement manufacturers and/or resellers will "certify" the battery as a replacement for your laptop model number. This means they have checked that those specs above have matched. It does not have anything to do with the quality of the battery.

So an original equipment (OEM) battery from Dell may be just what you need.

Only buy batteries from the manufacturer that you bought the computer from! The new battery will do more harm than good and could overheat, burn, or even explode! Try buying one straight from Dell.
