Laptop won't boot at all.

Did you ask the shop what tells them for certain it's the mobo? Since it's junked otherwise anyway I'd confirm it by removing the RAM to see if you get beeps which means mobo is alive. In this case test the RAM one stick at a time.

eMachines are being pushed into the bargain bin by Acer. The only ones which last now are the ones which have been around since before Acer bought them, some going strong 10 years with the same quality parts.
 
Did you ever check a new "Power AC Adaptor"? If the new one doesn't work, you can always take it back to the store you purchased it from...

Good thought, Jacee. A friend was junking an old Compaq laptop so I took it over to Geek Squad to have them plug in their multi-adapter and it started right up. Bought a good after-market one for $9 on eBay and it's back in business.
