[FIXED] Laserjet 1012 And windows 7 (32 bit) - Print Very slow

Hi,

I bought 4-5 years ago a laserjet 1012. It works like a charm and print around 1 page every 5 secs. Now I installed windows 7 Enterprise and there are no drivers for it, hp even states they wont ever make drivers for the printer in Windows 7.
Now I downloaded the Windows Vista drivers and installed these instead and now the printer works, only he prints very slow, like 1 page every 25 seconds.

So I suppose there is just a setting wrong somewhere, but I have checked all printer settings and couldn't find what it is.

Any one has a idea how to solve this issue ?

I posted a fix at the end of the thread, btw I am now on a 64 bit system but I supose it will also works on a 32 bit system.

Kind regards,

I can't help with a solution, but can confirm that the same thing is happening to me. The first page out takes about 30 seconds before the printer starts doing anything. I'm glad though that it will still print at all even though it's slow.

I also saw the HP website saying that Win7 drivers are not available for the 1012...which if I remember correctly may have been the same as when Vista first came out. Hopefully this is again the case and they are still working on them and it will just be delayed for whatever reason (Like to try to sell you a newer printer first).

Last hopeful bump before I will let this topic die.

I've had the same problem since I've upgraded to Vista and now continues with Windows 7, which I expected after seeing HP doesn't have drivers for 7.

HP forums were no luck, there appears to be no fix. It prints, but I've been putting up with the delay between pages for a year.

Windows 7 slow printing

I had the same issue with a LaserJet 4100 connected directly to a Dell Precision Workstation parallel port. I resolved it by going into the Advanced Printer Defaults and disabling or turning off various "features" such as--

Advanced Printing Features: Disabled
Print on Backside: Off
Smoothing: Off
Online diagnostic tools: Off
Support and troubleshooting: Off
Product Manuals: Off
Check for driver updates: Off
Color printing acess: Off
Order Supplies: Off
Show me how: Off
Print color usage log: Off

I got this from a topic pasted on the HP forum: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printe...ws-7-32-bit-Print-Very-slow/m-p/349546#M15389

Try installing as Laserjet 1300 PlC 5

Open Control Panel
Click Printers

Right click your 1012
select properties
select the ports tab

*note the port used by your 1012

Click add a printer
Select add a local printer
select use an existing port
drop down and select the port used by your 1012
click next
scroll left column to HP
scroll right column to HP laserJet 1300 PCL5
Click next and continue installation

Works well for me.

Got this on the Amazon.com reviews of HP LJ 1012
Why does HP not tell us that apparently the internal of the 1300 and the 1012 are similar form a driver perspective but there is a "real" vista driver for the 1300?

Forced obsolescence????
