Latest AMD Catalyst Video Driver for Windows 7

The newer Catalysts aren't the problem for many. It's the newer driver sets that are sadly lacking on things.

The thread mentioned by Sleestak posted previously regarding OpenGL extensions for example didn't solve the problem when copying the atiglxx.dll file or the older file there into the main folder. "unable to load graphics driver" is what was then seen as one example.

The catalyst on the other hand has been revised with a variety of options for tweaking as well as accomidating those running dual monitor setups.

10.9 mess up and locks my pc when playing any game or a flash video runs, 10.7 on my XFX 4830 is the most stable and gives best performance.

The only problem I was running into with any newer then the 10.4 was for the older titles that simply would not run. Slapping what looked like the OpenGL driver into the game folders saw no results but "unable to load graphics driver" not being one of the game's own files.

That was for the 5750 model card in use here. They've seen a few bad Catalyst versions on other occasions like the 7.9, 7.10s but never this many in a row suggesting something they are changing overall is becoming a problem for many.

I cant understand why they release drivers that are so unstable

It's not actually that uncommon to have a few bad updates with ATI or NVidia since an update is intended to cover several model series as well as individual models. Prior to AMD buying out ATI every second series before the latest lineup was dropped from active support.

As far as the latest catalysts and driver sets(10.5-9) they weren't found to be buggy but simply lacked continued support for the older titles. In fact even the older 9.4 version people were complaining about went on without fuss here on the last build suggesting some were not rebooting between removal of the older and install of the 9.4 at the time.

You first have to select the uninstall option followed by a full system restart and then run the latest Cat. installer the second time to see the latest go on. This insures the drivers from the older version are unloaded first. When not doing just that trying to rush things on you end up with problems as a result of user error.

I own a video card which is a Radeon HD 5700 Series. I also have Windows 7 64Bit. Now, I need to update my video card and I believe that the drivers who are already installed are 32 bit, is it possible. I want to update the card but I don<t know what driver I need 32 Bit or 64 Bit? Can you please help me?

Control Panel>System and look under "system type"! That shows whether you are running the 32bit or 64bit operating system. Look where it says "System" and below the Windows Experience Index.
poocessor = ???
Installed memory(RAM)=???
System type= 64bit Operating System

That's how that will be displayed if you have the 64bit Windows on. Simply substitute 64 for 32 if the 32bit.

Once you look there you simply select the Radeon cards option at the support site and click on the correct link for the 32bit or 64bit to arrive at the 10.9 download page.

I will admit,, that I do own an ATI card, cause it was a cheap upgrade at the time.
I have never had confidence in ATI's drivers. They have always been shite.

Other then a few bad Cat. versions seen once in a blue moon I never ran into more then 2 or 3 before this latest batch that actually saw any problems here. As for the 10.x "5-9s" the main problem is limited to the lack of OpenGL support being seen.

Before the AMD buyout the problem used to be the fast dropoff seen after the second model series where the new catalysts simply were only for the latest and next to latest model line seen at the time. AMD made a distinct improvement support wise.

I have a 5870 card and have been using the most recent version of each driver as it comes out.

In every case from about 10.4 up until the most recent version i have kept the same windows score and roughly the same 3dmark06 score.

Apart from one beta update that didnt install correctly that i quickly removed Ive had 0 problems other than those caused by overclocking which I expect. The drivers always seem fine and are probably coded for newer cards more than anything else.

This with Windows 7 64 bit.

Well i have to say seems like most of the people with driver issues are the one's with cards in the hd4xxx series seems like the hd5xxx club has less issues I don't know for sure

I never had a issue with any of the drivers yet and I hope it stays that way Im hopeing when i graduate to the hd67xx that it won't get a issue I would say just stick with the oldest driver that works like a 10.5 or 10.6 it is like come on ATI are just cranking these drivers out every 2 months or less it is ridiculous

So i would just roll back and keep it there for a while im sure you people out there aren't missing much .... just my view of it all im just seeing way to many post on driver problems and i have 0 as of yet

I agree with nighthawk alot of it is lack of proper uninstaltion of drivers but in turn i did try it the other way around it installed still no issues i guess sometimes it depends on you're build and the capatability you have with the whole make of you're machine

ATI Radeon HD 5700 Update Error!
Hi Guys,
I needed to update my drivers for my video card which is an ATI Radeon HD 5700 so I went on their support site and download the latest drivers for my graphic card which I think it's the version: (10-9_vista64_win7_64_dd_ccc_enu). As soon as I installed the update, at the end of the proccess, it told me there was an error while updating but it doesn't tell what's the specific cause of that error. I will the report as an attachment but it doesn't tell that much. Here it is: Catalyst Report.docx Now, do you have an idea what is causing the error when I try to do an update?

I've installed a newer catalyst over the older one numerous times without having any major issues with the exception of the 7.9 version seen with the card on the old build. When people were hampered with the 9.4 I simply uninstalled the 9.3 or 9.2 being the one on at the time, restarted and saw the 9.4 install without a glitch.

As for the latest 5-9 the only problem seen is simply the apparent lack of sypport for the old game titles as far as the OpenGL problem people are running into. There wasn't any display issues to note except for the old titles simply refusing to run when going to start each one up.

DX 9c is installed as well to avoid the lack of OpenGL from not having it on following each newer Cat. install but still saw the same result.

As for as the model series if not the 5xxx read the release notes when going for any newer release. That will list the model series that are supported.

The 2xxx are still seeing support showing the 4xxx is still too new not to be supported. The installation not being done correctly would be the likely cause for problems such as a protection program or other software clash occuring. This is why the advice to see the old removed completely before installing the newer latest would be the thing to insure the best results

With this now being seen as a patch for the 10.9 hopefully the 10.10 will see that already worked into it where you wouldn't need a second download. We'll have to see! Thanks for the heads up on that!
