The 12.1 driver seemed work fine on my old 4600 series. But CCC won't load
Haven't read thoroughly about the compatible card series.

I returned back to 11.9. last week.

Just in passing, I tried to use 12.1 along with installing a new HD5770 card with dual-DVI support for my two Eizo 24" monitors each running 1920x1200 60hz.

Terrible, terrible, terrible flickering. Also BSOD every 5 minutes. Could not do anything but re-boot.

Finally completely uninstalled all ATI with Driver Sweeper, and went back to MS generic drivers while I could research the problem.

Discovered "12.1a Preview" purportedly resolved the BSOD issue. Downloaded and installed, and it was like a miracle. ZERO BSOD's ever since going to 12.1a, and flickering has disappeared as well. I've now got everything stabilized, and am very happy with the HD5770 under 12.1a Preview.

I've been doing quite a lot of *BETA-testing lately,
and it'd be nice to know what results you're getting..

*I'm still unable to advance beyond the 8.95 (12.3) BETA version - dated 17th Jan 2012..
every upgrade to this one gives bad artifacts in Skyrim - but that's only with
my cards, though (two 6870's crossfired) - they appear to be working well
with other AMD cards - perhaps it's only the 68xx series that's affected..



- ran bench at 1280x1024 with 4x a/a and a/f
- fair results ..the 12_3BETA(17th Jan) works, OK..

Haven't read thoroughly about the compatible card series.

I returned back to 11.9. last week.

Run a 12.1 custom install, install only the new drivers without the new catalyst.

Then run a 10.11 custom install and instal only the old catalyst.

This way you have the most recent drivers and the catalyst.

Iv tested this with the 4870 and 4890.

Old catalyst? Yes and is working fine.

I did it in an opposite way. Run 11.12 first then 12.1 without control center.
If I do it 12.1 first then the 11.12 won't run if I unchecked the driver.

Hope that is the best I can get.

hey, that's how spooky it gets..
other 4*** and 5*** series users are reporting improvements from the recent 8.95test vs.

- maybe there'll be some additions before general release *crosses fingers*

BTW: the new 7*** BETA test drivers seem to be very popular with those up at the really pointed end..

Just realized the issue was with my Windows 8 (posted above)
It runs quite well on my Windows 7, just installed it now.
Being fond of WDP makes me almost forget to boot from Windows 7.
Your post were able to wake me up.

It runs quite well on my Windows 7, just installed it now.

no problem, was giving my feedback that it worked on my series. Since I saw you guys were having problems with it. Didn't know it was a win 8 issue but good to know for others who are thinking about trying it on win 8.

Tried to update again with the same flickering result. Googling around i found the solution. Simply disable overclock on the CCC panel which is turned on by default on the update. Problemo solved.

I was prompted to update to 11.6 (never been prompted by CCC before) so I did.
Much screen flickering and aero not working correctly.
I used system restore to revert back to 3 AM last night...it said restore failed, BUT I noticed that I am back to 11.5 and everything is working great again.

Just out of curiosity, is there some known reason why AMD decided to do away with the "optional separate downloads" for drivers and CCC? That seems to have disappeared with the original 12.1 release, as I recall discovering.

I'd always taken the separates approach, rather than the "complete suite". But that's no longer an option.

I guess it might have been easier for them to eliminate optional product packages, but now, after so many years of doing it that alternate way as well? They obviously knew how to do it, and the mechanisms were long in place. So why stop now?

The install program will let you pick what to install with the custom option. Express option will install everything.
