Latest AMD Catalyst Video Driver for Windows 7

HDMI Driver Missing in 12-3_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc.exe

The HDMI driver(AtihdW76.sys) seems to be missing in the Win7 64bit version of Catalyst 12.3 Mobility. I keep getting an HDMI Driver Fail on install.

I did notice that in the extracted folder "C:\AMD\Support\12-3_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc\Packages\Drivers\WDM\HDMI\W764a" there is a file named AtihdW76.txt, instead of AtihdW76.sys that says:

FILE QUARANTINED

Microsoft Forefront Protection for Exchange Server removed a file since it was found to match a filter.
File name: "winmail.dat->Win7.rar->Win7\W764a\AtihdW76.sys"
Filter name: "FILE FILTER= AMD Delete: *"

Can anyone help?

Can you add the AtihdW76.sys to the whitelist, or exclude list in Microsoft Forefront Protection for Exchange Server?

No, this is my home laptop. I will have a look at that link you posted because I'm not sure what Microsoft Forefront Protection for Exchange Server is. I believe the Exchange Server was used by AMD, I'm not using it on my end.

Forefront is the corporate version of Microsoft Security Essentials. My university uses it on all the computers in their labs. Are you downloading this through a school account or something like that?

No, I am using my LAN @ home, and I downloaded it from AMD.com. I have never had an issue installing Catalyst Mobility on my laptop until now.

Forefront Protection for Exchange Server is a security solution mostly used in enterprise. You did not install the programs on this laptop? If you wanted, you could uninstall this, and switch to something like Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE), or Avast! Antivirus. We are all curious how you come to have this paid commercial security program on your home laptop. A Guy

I installed Catalyst on my home laptop(yes, the one in my sig). I have Kaspersky AV and I don't have Forefront Protection for Exchange Server. I'm using Windows 7 SP1 Home Premium 64bit.

Can someone download and extract Catalyst Mobility 12.3 for Windows 7 64bit, and look at "C:\AMD\Support\12-3_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc\Packages\Drivers\WDM\HDMI\W764a". I want to know if there is a file named AtihdW76.txt, instead of AtihdW76.sys

Thanks 'A Guy'. I looked around on the web and I see others having the same issue. I saw that a user on the guru3d forums actually copied and pasted my whole post from here in Sevenforums. I found that the new AtihdW76.sys version is now actually 7.12.0.7706 (A Guy's version is 7.12.0.7705). So if anyone needs it, I included all files in the extracted W764a folder.

I ended up downloading Catalyst 12.3 from here, instead of AMD and the HDMI files were included.

My desktop won't boot after installing 12.3 I decided to go back to 7 from the win8 cp and when I tried to install 12.3 the computer goes to some other screen than the welcome screen and sits there forever. I can use a restore point to go back and that fixes it.

I am getting pissed though I feel like every other update amd releases has some major issue and I may have to spend the cash and change to nvidia if it keeps up like this. They are seriously dropping the ball with the drivers these days. I am just tired of fighting with this catalyst garbage.

So now what do I do for a driver? Where are older version at? 12.3 isn't going to work I can see.

I think you'll find nVidia drivers have the same issues.

my friend around 3 months ago was having problems with his nvdia card due to drivers don't see how switching brands would make it bug free since there is no such thing as bug free. Just go to another version that's fixed and runs adequate. Also i'm having absolutely no problems with the 12.3 drivers running on my 6870 under windows 7 64bit.

Switching brands just means significantly less issues. That is my point. Every other update to catalyst breaks my system. With nvidia there seems to usually be a simple fix for most issues also where as with catalyst I am almost always stuck trying to get an older version back in the system.

But it goes beyond drivers really. For a while ati cards really had the upper hand. Lower costs and I mean like half the price here for a card that could smoke the top of the line nvidia stuff. The ati cards were also pretty reliable a couple of gens back. But times have changed and it looks like it is going the other way now.

Well you got to consider like your previous post says that your running win 8 cp and that's probably the biggest reason why since win 8 is new so they got to code it differently because on win 7 there is absolutely no problems with the drivers,of course there is going to be bugs after all it is a consumer "Preview".

prices for ATI cards are dropping so imho they are still a compelling option

now at the end of the summer I am going to build a new Ivy Bridge/Sandy Bridge computer and I will look at both Nvidia and ATI card options because the top end cards of both ATI and Nvidia have comparable performance imo so it will be a price/performance decision for me

the thing is though the last Nvidia card I owned was a Geforce4 4200 Ti and that was around like 2003 so it has been awhile since I used Nvidia :shock:
