Latest AMD Catalyst Video Driver for Windows 7

(I just did a long post and got a blank page on submission aaaar now steam is coming out of my ears.)

Heres what happens with Mobility Modder.

After install the CCC stuff shows on the programs menu but running any of it spins the hourglass for a few secs and no GUI appears.
Task manager shows that CCC and something called MOM are running but no sign of them anywhere else.

I got by for 10 years without buying any ATI kit and now I'm really regretting having bought this card. Maybe I'll persevere a bit longer but I've a feeling the old Matrox is going back in there soon. Unbelievable! I STARTED planning this system with the graphics card. I did all my homework and built the system around the card just so I'd not have any problems with W7 graphics compatibility and so that TV out would work with W7. I found loads of recommendations for it for use with W7 too. Arrrr! Pathetic isn't it. Sysadmin since 1984 (Sysop on Vax and DEC10s), took delivery of one of the 1st 2 MacIIs into the country, using Packet Switch Stream before most people had a digital watch and I get stumped by a lousy ATI graphics card on a Windoze box. If I can't handle it then what hope it there for regular punters? Microsoft really sucks - a disk-based OS how pathetic is that 20 yrs after I had an OS on EPROM?

These made a HUGE difference in the Resident evil bench I have (300% in one area). Win7 64bit and 4890. YMMV


Maybe faster for some, especially with only one machine to update and a slow connection.

I'm guessing that the new one still only works with the PCIe board but if anyone has managed to install it for AGP then please let me in on the installation method. Many thanks.

No. AGP vs PCIe have no relevance to the problem.

The 2400 series is now considered a legacy card. You can confirm this by checking the ATI site (or readme) for which cards are supported in the 9.9

I will assume that I am correct. So, what you need to do - identify which Catalyst driver version was the last one to support the 2400 series and acquire it. For some reason, I think it was 9.3, based on work done here by Doakh - but I never found the driver to confirm.

Then allow me to gently say that you aren't and to correct you. The cards that have been declared "legacy" is everything from the X19XX series and down, everything from the HD2xxx series and up is still supported,

Part of thepcguy's is that the AGP cards aren't officially supported, and need the AGP hotfix driver,

Maybe Shawn can add that link into the first post, making note that it is for users of the relative AGP cards. As I understand it from the ATI/AMD forums that link isn't supposed change, just the links in it; usually a day or two after the official release.

Thanks for trying to help guys n' gals but I've tried the "Hotfix". It installs just like the whole CCC package so where the word "hotfix" has relevance I don't know. When installed unmodded it leaves an empty ATI folder in programs and doesn't add anything to the start menu.
Anyhoo... there doesn't seem to be one for 7 there, only for Vista 32 and I've tried that (with and without modding it with and without compatibility mode)
The modded install of the Hotfix does actually install files into the ATI programs folder and it puts a program choice on the start menu. Unfortunately CCC doesn't actually run when it is started from the start menu nor when the app is run from its folder in programs. In short - nothing happens.
Hmmm. Blatent AGPism on ATI's part I'd say.

Nevermind, I'm actually pretty happy with the card. It's just a shame that it can't do TV out on W7.

I'll give it a try but I'm still confused about the hotfix. Is it a patch to be installed after installing the main package? It seems to be a complete package.

OK - I've just tried the following.
I installed the package at Jacee's link ATI Catalyst™ Display Driver 7 Beta - 32-Bit Edition.
It seemed to install OK but there was an empty ATI Technologies folder in Programs and no menu items in the Start Menu.
I then installed the "hotfix" on top of that and I now have the CCC options in the Start Menu and files in the Programs folder.
Trouble is, none of the options work. When any of them are chosen, nothing happens.
Oh well, I'm off to do yet another System Resore. Any ideas are still welcome.

- the v9.9 driver for Vista 64-bit and Windows7 64-bit are in the same package..

- it works a treat with the 64-bit RC

I am using 32 bit W7 build 7100.
Hmm. Maybe I haven't clear exactly what I want to be able to do when I said "TV Out".
The card has no tuner on it. It's just a simple graphics card.
I used to have a Matrox card that I could hook up to my monitor and my TV.
Everything that played in a video overlay was sent out the S-Video to my TV so when I played stuff in a small VLC Player window on the monitor I'd also get it full screen on the TV. Matrox calls this DVD Mode.
I thought that I was going to be able to do this with the ATI HD 2400 Pro because it has two VGA outs plus an S-Video out and it was marketed at having "TV Out".
I've tried using one of the VGA heads with a converter to s-video and I've also tried using the s-video out but can't manage to configure the card to throw out a picture to the TV when I play video in VLC Player.
I figure that the CCC software would enable me to be able to do this. Am I wrong?
