Latest AMD Catalyst Video Driver for Windows 7

Generally it's been smooth sailing on different builds especially after ATI was bought out except for the few bad ones overall. One one old XP case the Cat.s over the 5.11 became problematic with an old AGP card then AMD took over later seeing far better results.

Before AMD bought ATI out you would see 2-3 model lines covered and then discontinued from support real fast. But you rarely ran into too many Bad Cat.s since they would drop model lines too fast being another problem to contend with.

I'm suprised that AMD hasn't followed suit like Creative did by having a selector for each model series as well as type of card when you first arrive at the support site. That would allow for covering the increasing number of model types in each series as well multiple series in progression to divide things up a bit.

i hope not to see them fallow suit. i want accutal support

Just to make things clear are we all doing clean installs of the new 10.5 software.

Even when not removing the previous catalyst ahead of time the installer will automatically uninstall it as part of the setup. But to insure everything is off you can remove the prior release, make sure to see a full system restart to insure all drivers are unloaded from ram, and then run the setup for the latest to see that go on.

cloud8521 I think you can relax a bit on seeing continued support by AMD while ATI previously had been on a downhill trend and quickly discontinued support when it was an independent. AMD's problem as mentioned earlier is simply trying to cover too much at once with only one release of each catalyst rather then 2 or 3 when covering multiple model series leading to problems.

ATI's idea of only covering 3 model series was right while they simply dropped everything for the older models being their downfall. AMD should have one for 2xxx and 3xxx with a second for the newer 4xxx and 5xxx latest or go from 2-4xxx and one for the latest 5xxx series to see better results.

That's like trying to come out with a patch for an old Celeron or Socket A cpu and expecting it to work on a new Core I4, I5, I7 or Atholon II, Phenom II processor. NOT GOOD! Vpus are like cpus in that sense.

ya i understand, you can squeeze more out of something if you build it fully around that model. but i was making more of a joke

Well I doubt they have every model by each brand lined up in front of them when going to test each Cat. version before it is uploaded onto the server there. You simply have to stay with the ones that work and avoid the few that don't!

This is a new one here as well on the new build. The 10.4 went right on while the 10.5 ran into some OpenGL problems right off when simply starting up an old game title. Right about then several others started reporting other problems.

The best thing now for anyone running into problems is to revert back to the 10.4 until at least the 10.6 is out or choose to wait for the next to follow to see how things go with one of them. At least there's a large gap when looking back at the 7.9 then 9.4 and now the 10.5 with few problems if any with the ones inbetween.

I'm not sure why you are having issues with your profiles, so it may be a good idea to 're-create them'.

Delete them with the profile manager in CCC first and to double check they are indeed removed check:

C:\Users\<YOU>\AppData\Local\ATI\ACE\Profiles

Delete any .xml files from that directory if they still exist.

Then create some new ones.

I haven't had any problems with this 10.5 at all. I read in another post about XFX versions of of the drivers may be different than the ATi released version. So, I installed 10.5 from the XFX site and absolutely no problems with anything.

Matter of fact, something happened during the driver install that I thought was pretty cool.

Nothing has changed from my driveruninstall / reinstall routine--uninstall, reboot to Safe Mode, run Driver Sweeper, reboot, install new drivers. Except that with versions prior to 10.5, after rebooting, I would have to go into Catalyst and create my Eyefinity arrangement all over again. With 10.5, at the Windows logon screen--before actually getting into Windows, mind you--the screen went black for a second and put my Eyefinity arrangement back together!

And concerning Eyefinity, I'm going to bite the bullet and get the active DisplayPort adapter. Found one in the store and going to get it today. With the passive adapter I'm using now, no Blu-Ray

I tried, several times with my Win7 64 bit and an HD4850 graphics card. The first time Soldier of Fortune would not run. The next time it did not fully install and the third (and last) time, it failed and the driver did not load.

From what I can see so far if you have a 4xxx series card and play BFBC2, stick with the 10.5 hotfix as it looks like the BFBC2 load fix isn't in the 10.6.

You can get 10.6, both x86 and x64 here, as their main site seems to have been spotty since, and now is down.

yea it does seem slower load times are back on my 4890

this is what the 3rd ATI WHQL driver release in row that has problems with BFBC2

back to 10.5a I guess and I will download the 10.6 hotfix for BFBC2 when and if it comes out
