Latest AMD Catalyst Video Driver for Windows 7

That's what keeps the economy of some type going anyways! In this field especially in the last few years you have to expect to see a fast turnover of hardwares. Who wants a 5yr. old video card? Not unless you are restoring or trying to keep a museum piece running.

This is why you have to check the release notes on the newer catalysts for expansion type cards to see if that model series is covered. For most onboard graphics you generally won't see a catalyst but a set of drivers to match there.

I'm not talking about old cards..I would like to think that my 4850 X2 is a fairly new card... I could be wrong but I would have to think this card will take me into the next major change, (system, O/S, file change) at least for the near future.
I can go back to saying, someone from ATI, Radion, or Sapphire has to step up. I'm sure the little mfg are working with the lg mfg or are at least in contact. They just don't have an answer. Yeah for Nvidia, on top of their game. My alternate card is working well, but it's not the one I want to use.

The support site seen at the manufacturer or ATI.AMD game.com site should readily see Vista if not Vista/7 catalysts readily avialable since that's one of the latest models out. Any Cat.9.x version is already geared from the 2xxx series through the 4xxx models.

I read through the pages but couldnt find what I needed..so..
I'm running win7 x64 build 7100 (RC1) on the following PC - Alienware M17-EU notebook with dual ATI Mobility Radeon HD3870X2. I have the 9.4 catalyst driver but the problem is very disturbing - the secondary video card won't start,only the primary one works. Didn't have such problems under Vista x86 and x64. Windows gives me the explanation that the device cannot start (code10). Any suggestions?

Ive run into the same problems with each up date, I'm running two monitors, my card will only run one. My mouse can travel to the second screen but it stays blank. The drivers don't install correctly and I get an error message on each 7 install and the 9.4 cat install. I would like to think its a faulty card but, it works with XP 64. It may work with Vista but of my 5 machines in the house none are running Vista. As I said before, I'm running an Nvidia 2700 as a back-up card and it works well enough, I would like to run my Sapphire card because it should work better on this system. ATI is just letting me down

it won't even let me install the latest catalyst drivers. Always fails, if I try manual update, it says my drivers are up to date O_O

Im trying to get KOTOR II to work.... and nothing is making it happen.

I can get the game to play, but when I enter the video settings, it crashes

Join the club, I do think that there are some suggestions on that card in past posts so you may want to look back thru the pages. I feel for ya, but i can't reach you, I in a whole nuther boat, but is does my heart good to know others having problems. Makes me feel a little less inept. Thats a crap attitude

For some reason, in the .inf files for 9.3 and 9.4 my graphics card is listed, but if I try to manually pick them, I get a list of video cards, none of which are mine.... 9.1 and 9.2 work, but 9.3+4 don't....

somewhere back in the mix, someone used the method of cutting and pasting, the list of graphics cards form one upgrade to the other. Just like anything else you can make an input error on one file and replace it with a functioning file. That goes back to my college days of writing in c or c++. but that was long enough ago that I wouldn't attempt it now. You really can't screw it up because you can always paste back what you screw up, or get another copy of the file and replace the whole thing if your changes don't work. You can also type in your changes and see how badly you can screw it up.........if it works out for you = you really feel like you did something, if you screw it up you can always go back.

Do you know I have absolutely no problems with the 9.4 in XP, Vista, both 7077s, and now the RC evaluation copy. Each time that went right on with the HD 2600 XT model here. It also went right on with the 64bit 7000 before following the 9.1 on first.

You may want to look at what else could interfere with the catalyst installer like what you installed before trying to get the 9.4 on as well as security and other settings. Or you may have seen a bad install of Windows where the card simply isn't being properly detected.

Copy and Paste: That's one of the first things I tried. It didn't work, the driver said it was not signed, then it failed to install

Other Problems w. Catalyst installer: I don't even use catalyst installer anymore. However, I found the problem when I was manually installing the drivers. There are two .inf files for 9.3 and 9.4, unlike the previous versions that only had one. In one of the inf files, it has pretty much every card they ever made (a bit of an exaggeration), the other one only has 2300 and beyond. For some reason, It doesn't read the inf with all the cards in it, and copy and paste does nothing. Also, 9.4 stopped supporting x1900... so I bet they stopped in 9.3, which is why everything from 9.2 works fine, and the inf files are proper.

In any event, the 9.x drivers suck. I tried 9.1 and 9.2, both failed with games, but 8.2 works wonderfully. I have a feeling that if you have an older card, you may as well go with an older driver as they did not make any card specific (at least for my card) changes since then.

The main reason you can't simply copy+paste drivers is that Windows has to make them active once installed. When copying the drivers from one place to another they simply sit there idle since no new registry value will be pointing to them as seen when installed correctly.

The 8.2 was a good one there as well as the 8.9 was for Vista. XP until lately was still running the 8.2. I still have the 32bit 8.2 and 8.9 onhand here even while updating to the latest 9.4 on everything incuding the 64bit 7 install.

i guess i didnt elaborate enough on "copy and paste"... iu didnt mean the driver files, I mean the .inf files. There are two inf files, one appears to not work. in that nonoworking version, it has all the info on my video card. So, I pasted all that info into the .inf file without my cards information (contained in the same folder, don't know why they have 2 inf files, nor do I know why one doesnt work), and that made my card actually appear on the list of available drivers. However, it was unsigned, and the install failed.

only works with 4000 series :/ its probably time i buy another video card. i paid 550 for mine 4 years ago or so.....now, for that price you can get a bad ass card. I wonder when the 5000 series will come out.

4yrs. is a longggggggg... time in the computer world! While you can still find AGP cards(8x/4x) still being manufactured as well as PCIe cards the individual model series has a very short life span!

yeah, i know it is. I replace my hardware when it bothers me, I'm an impulse buyer. I haven't played a game in years, let alone a new game... So i haven't played anything my old 1900xt can't handle. Once I have the urge to try something new, or hook it up to a 1080p projector, then I will replace everything I need to. Last thing I played was half-life 2 on a 61 inch 1080p tv, with well over 60 fps (around 100, give or take). For now, I am satisfied that my investment has more than paid itself off.

I see light at the end of the tunnel, 7100 and the beta 9.5, may fix my problems, I'm waiting for them both to end up at my house. Spoke to the family in Conn. and they say this up grade is what I need to fix the problems I'm having with multi-display and thats a good thing. I'm running two acer 22" minitors, I have 4 and want to see how it looks in panarama. Hey I have very little to look forward to these days. It doesn't take much to make my day. I would like to play Unreal.....with max-pop. Thats going back some. I would like to see an end to the driver problems......so I can go forward and complain about something else.
