My personal recommendation if you don't know much about registry and not sure what CCleaner is deleting, Don't use it.

But it's up to you. And Ccleaner is relatively safer then most other registry cleaners.

Sorry, I meant previous versions of CCleaner where if the registry cleaner facility was used it would corrupt Win 7.

Can't see any reports on forums and changelog.
Will try to check it..

Sorry I couldn't find any confirmation that it was fixed.
Neither I found any bug report that it has happened.

Only if you are able to examine everything it presents and decide what to remove.

That is true with all apps. of this kind.

The only app. I haven't (yet) seen present anything hazardous is Glaryutilities - probably because it is gentle and doesn't present you with much to remove.
