Hey, I'm looking for a new LCD Monitor.
Planning on doing dual setup.
Would it be better to get the exact same monitors? Or have different?

These are the things I am looking for:

- 22 or 23 inch
- 2m/s
- Good colour and brightness
- All the connectors and HDMI
- Good for gaming
- Good for pictures
- Good for movies
- Good all round and no problems
- No dead colors etc...

So what do you guys recommend me? Please don't suggest HP, LG brands.
Thanks!

The DELL Ultrasharp series gets good reviews and is easy to setup UltraSharp U2311H 23 inch Monitor Details There's a 24" also and you can try the DELL Outlet as often there are returns that have never been opened that were returned with a system.

Well Dell does not make the monitors, and actually the ultrasharp monitors are better than ANYTHING you'll find at Fry's or Best Buy (minus the Apple Cinima Display).

Truth is, most monitors (like 90-99%) of all monitors at big box stores these days are CRAP. 90% of them use 6 bit DACs, it's like we are moving back in time. the "good" monitors in big box stores frwquently still use 6 bit dacs but then dither up to 8 bit wHich isn't much better. In reality they are all TV quality panels. They also have annoyingly limited vertical resolution to match the tv widescreen aspect ratio.

Dell and NEC and a couple others (Apple if you REALLY have money) are the only places to get a "real" computer monitor any more :(

As for the size option, I would get one really nice large primary monitor, then a smaller side monitor. The side one can be a cheap $100 monitor to put your gadgets, IM windows mail etc on. 1280x1024 is a nice size if you can even find one any more. Then have you 1920x1200 GOOD main for movies/photowork/games etc...

So spend 80% of your budget on a good 24 in main and then 20$ on a cheap 19 in secondary off to the side works out really well IMHO. I think it's better than two monitors the same size but smaller due to budget restrictions. Course dual 24s might rock if you had a big desk and a big wallet :D

[Edit]Just looked at the dell ultrasharp 23 in monitor. It's a good monitor with a good display panel. It's failing over the 24 in version is the limited vertical resolution, but it's still better than anything you'll find in a walk in store.[/edit]

You're welcome, might have been a lot easier if you listed what you were interested in from the start, best of luck.

I have two Samsungs, one 20 inch and one 24 inch, and they're great for computers. One's 2 m/s and the other is 3 m/s, good contrast, great quality screen.

Should be able to pick one up at Future Shop; they're a model from last year, so should come rather cheap.

LED pictures are nice, though I am scared of LED might die. I heard you cannot leave on LED monitors for a long period of time.

Take note that "LED" monitor is marketing misnomer. They are LCD panels with LED backlights... :) We don't call current LCD montiors "CCFL" monitors...

Will be interesting to see the actual longevity numbers. LEDs /should/ be superior to the CCFL tubes in use now since those have a very definate and known life time.

The upshot is, I wouldn't leave any LCD monitor on for any longer than you were actually using it, the backlights all wear out.
