Left Click Delay or Temporarily Inactive

Ok so I have been experiencing problems with my mouse it seems to get sluggish or lagged out when I try to left click anything. Sometimes it will not select the object I click on, other times it will select the item but not open it unless I click 4-5 times. Just clicking a link in Firefox or IE sometimes requires 2-3 clicks before recognizing it. This issue also carries over into games and applications such as World of Warcraft I will have to click my skills multiple times to get them to cast or to select a target. Also if I try to click on something to drag it or move it around it doesn't seem to hold it will let go and then randomly try to hold or select the object again so if your mouse is somewhere on a web page if you're moving the browser it may click an image or a link.

Now the issue will occasionally clear up and the mouse will work flawlessly but then it's back and the frustration continues. I have been searching the web for a couple days now troubleshooting left and right to no avail. I found another person who posted the same issue as me and same situation it started happening after he installed new RAM. I started with a Triple channel OCZ kit that had 1 dead simm so it was running 4 instead of 6 gig and no problems. Put in the new replacement kit all 6 gig works and no software changes nothing.

All troubleshooting steps I have taken so far: (This is an Optical Corded MS Mouse)
1. Ran Anti-Virus, Anti-Malware, Anti-spyware and File corruption scans on the PC and no errors or problems detected.
2. Defragmented hard drive to ensure it just wasn't too cluttered.
3. Removed all USB drivers and re-installed them.
4. Removed the mouse and uninstalled it's drivers and put it into a different USB port.
5. I have not reformatted and installed windows again because that is a last resort and the individual who listed the same exact issue said he reformatted and installed windows fresh with no success.

Extra Info:
I am running full version Malware Bytes protection, full version ESET Smart Security 4, all on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.

Are you using MBAMs real time protection? Have two real time AVs run at the same time can cause are kinds of weird problems. Have you tried a different mouse? I didn't see it listed in the steps you took. Is this a wireless mouse? If so, Have you tried changing the batteries? I helped a guy the other day that had the exact same problem and the issue was that the batteries in his wireless mouse died sooner than expected.

Corded Optical Microsoft Mouse, I can try my other corded optical microsoft mouse but not confident it will fix the issue, I have MBAM's realtime protection turned off a majority of the time and ESET's realtime protection is always on. My laptop is running Win 7 Home Premium 64bit and runs MBAM and ESET realtime protection sametime and no mouse issues so I kinda ruled that out since it can't be slowing down my desktop which is brand new quad core at 2.8 GHz. But I will go ahead and try the other mouse. Any other ideas?

I'd like to hear what the results with the other mouse are first. Different results will yield different responses.

WIN key | type MSCONFIG | ENTER key | STARTUP tab

Uncheck any programs you see listed there that aren't from MS or the manufacturer of your computer and its peripherals.

Another likely culprit is your video driver.

Check with the mfg for the latest video driver.

UPDATE:
I installed the latest Catalyst drivers went from 10.2 to 10.7 and there was no change even after a reboot, the mouse still performed same problems as before.

I swapped out my current corded optical MS Mouse with my older corded optical MS Mouse and so far after about 10 hours of off and on use haven't run into the issue yet. Perhaps it's possible the other mouse is starting to short out due to age and use but that currently is the only logical answer after all the troubleshooting.
