Legality problems with repair service?

My friend might have to send his PC to the manufacturer to have it repaired due to some serious hardware issues. He has downloaded approximately 10,000 songs illegally, bootlegged a lot and has ISO's and labels of a lot of movies and might have even more legal complications. If he sends in his computer to the manufacturer for repair will they access his files and on that concern will they turn him in to the feds?

This is not a good scenario. But in most cases those repair shops reinstall the OS. So all these files will disappear.

Wow it would depend on what hardware they have to repair. If they repair everything expect the Hard drive they shouldn't need to delete thing off the hard drive. But if they do replace the Hard drive then all that data will be history.

I'm sure the poor techs are so overworked that they have better things to do than look for illegally-pirated files, even if they could readily determine the validity of any particular file.

I suppose there are various mandatory reporting requirements for stuff like the proverbial child porn, but music??? Unlikely.

Sorry, but tell that friend that he needs to stop pirating and then he wouldn't have this problem. It's not your responsibility or any of ours. Also, it would be kind of nice is he gets reported to the feds because 10,000 songs for free is 10,000 songs the content creators didn't get paid for.

Most manufacture repairs just format and reinstall may do hardware test but they dont bother submitting police reports unless its underage child porn or a serious threat.
