Lenovo Laptop report that Windows 7 is no longer genuine

Hi all,

We have a Lenovo Laptop and we use the recovery disk to downgrade the Windows 8 to Windows 7.

We used the Laptop for about 2 Months and suddenly today it reported that the Windows 7 is no longer genuine. We contacted Lenovo for this issue and they said it is the problem of Microsoft's Activation. :confused:

However, we contacted Microsoft Licensing Team and they said our key is not valid! :shock:

Is there anyone who can figure out what is the cause of the issue and how to fix it?

The installed Key is the proper one for a Lenovo Recovery disk.
The Key is blocked at MS's activation servers, because it's designed to self-activate on every boot using the certificate in the BIOS SLIC table and licenses built into the Recovery media. MS cannot assist in these cases as it's the OEM's responsibility under the licensing terms.

In your case it seems that the licenses aren't being found for some reason.
The normal reason for this is that you've used retail media to install the OS (or do a repair install) - such media doesn't contain the licenses, and so the system goes first into grace mode, and after three days it starts giving non-genuine notifications.

The only thing that might help is to rebuild the licensing store - if this doesn't work, then a reinstall using the recovery media will be required.


Please first try recreating Licensing Store.

Recreate the Licensing Store
Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-Click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator - accept the UAC prompt
Run the following commands in the Command Prompt window, using the Enter key at the end of each

net stop sppsvc
(wait until the service has stopped before entering the following lines)

CD %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
REN tokens.dat tokens.bar
net start sppsvc
slui.exe

After a couple of seconds the Windows Activation dialog will appear.
You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key, or Activation may occur automatically.
If you are asked for your Key, use the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case

Reboot and Post back with a new MGADiag report.

(Note: the Line 'CD %win......\SoftwareProtectionPlatform' is all on one line - it may be broken in the Forum listing)
