panais,
What exactlly is the purpose of the PC?
For gaming? Any other CPU intensive tasks?

I can tell you right now, as a owner of a Core i7 2700, the Hyperthreading will be of very little use in games. You would likely be better off with a i5 like the 2500K and use that money you saved towards a better graphics card.

The reason I say this is because most games do not make use of the Hyperthread portion. From every test Ive seen, plus my own hands on experience, HT niether helps nor hurts gaming. certain games it may get you an extra 5FPS, and in others may cost you 3-4FPS. So overall the same.

If doing alot of CPu intestive things that take advantage of mutli-threading (such as Video Encoding) the HT can help a good deal there. But, you will need to be doing this stuff alot to justify it.

Also, for a gaming rig, the same holds true for Memory. Around 1600mhz is the sweet spot, and faster will not really gain you much. Only certain apps/scenarios will gain anything from faster RAM, but gaming is not really one of those.

personally, Ive become a big fan of Mushkin. But, honestly, it really doesn't matter that much.
Gskill, Corsair, Mushkin would be my top 3 picks. Which ever has a decent price for the speed/amount you want.

Im a bit biased but ..
I would say a Nvidia 500series for the Graphics. The GTX 570s are really nice, I love mine.
they aren't top of the line these days, but still an all-round good GPU.

If your just going to run a single Graphics card, a good name brand 550-650W is all you'll ever need. I would ceratinly stick with Seasonic, Corsair, or Antec.
The Season x650 would be a excellent, top notch PSu if you can find one there.

OS SSD- Intel 320 80Gb or a Crucial M4
Spinners, Ive always been a fan of Western Digital Black Editions and would recommend them.

I would get somethign like a Black Edition for User Data and Most games, and a Blue Edition for Backup purposes. Stay away from the Greens IMHO.

I didnt like the look of the Chasers myself. But in all honesty, the case is a very personal thing. Just make sure it will support and have room for what you want to put in it, and the aesthics will be a matter of whats pleasing to you.

Many love them, and I have read/heard good things about them though.

Heres a place to start.

Good\strong PSU Seasonicx660<--< add here the link

Good motherboard usb 2,usb 3 sata 2,sata3 ASUS z68 Pro

Strong i7 cpu with good cooling 2600K

Fast ram 2x4GB CorsairVengance
Strong GPU GTX570

Solid state 3 100-120GB Samsung128GB

Extra 1.5 TB hard disk WDBlack

With that case, and 2 of the 1.5TB WD Blacks, that would be near 1855. Do you want air cooling or the closed water cooling though?

Reason I would suggest the 2 mechanical drives is simply, 3TB storage + 128GB SD space for one.
1 can be used for Music, Video, Pictures, and even games.

Since most games do not gain much from being on the SSD, you could just have currently played one, or ones that really benefit on the SSD, and the rest sit on the HD. Just a thought.

Still need the OS and a cooler though. Not sure if price of Windows needs to be included in the budget. Could always drop a WD Black.

2 1.5 TB mechanical drives is a good idea.

Air cooling.

A good cooling\fan system for the i7 cpu.

PSU 800W and maybe more, able for a second GPU.

Well, depending on budget, you could always sink a bit more into a more powerful graphics card.

And remember all the little stuff too thats easy to forget.
Keyboard, Mouse, Speakers,DVD or BluRay Drive. Possibly even a sound card if your into that sort of thing.

This smaller stuff really starts adding up fast.

If you aren't going to overclock, the stock Intel coolers are fine. If you are going to overclock, the best bang for the buck is often the Hyper 212+ cooler. If you want spend more money and ensure you have more headroom for overclocking in the future, look to the Corsair H series of coolers.

As far as cases go, the person has to have a say on that. For me, I don't like huge towers. I much prefer a quiet case, without case windows, that it's a bit smaller in stature so that it can easily fit in more areas and not look obnoxious. I would insist upon a case with dust filters...even simple cases like the Antec 300 have them and they really help keep the dust and dirt out of the PC.

I'm running an EVGA GTX 570 with 1280MB RAM with the reference design and I love my card. It's quiet and powerful. It's a bit on the large side, so it was a tighter fit in my case then I expected, but it went right in.

Windows and Linux enthusiast. Logitech G35 Headset.
Power supply, same as in my specs. Corsair AX-850-GOLD Pro series. Every review I have ever read says it's great. I can verify that.
Tower also the same as my specs. Corsair 600T Black. I did add the extra side cover in order to install fans blowing over the video card and mother board. It's a mid tower that is bigger than many full size. Very easy to work with and the wiring management is great. You can move two drive bays around or remove them for better air flow control. One thing to mention, the fan control is useless. Take a serious look at this puppy.
Cpu cooling, Corsair H80, push/pull cools great, easy to install and takes very little space on the motherboard.
Fans, Nactua period.

When I picked my motherboard, I made sure there wasn't any onboard graphics, due to me using a discrete GPU instead. I felt that I could cram more function in for the price if I made sure I didn't get one with onboard graphics.

I agree with the dual GPU option being open for the future, and using a higher wattage PSU for that purpose, especially if you have a bigger monitor and the individual is into high quality graphics when it comes to gaming. NewEgg has a "PSU calculator" that can give you a rough estimate of the power you'd want in that case; just make sure you put in two GPUs to make room for the wattage.

If video rendering and graphic design is intensive, I'd say get a 2GB card rather than a 1GB. Helps with large amounts of textures being in memory, so I've read, also can't hurt for gaming.

I'd say a yes on the water cooling, as I have the H100 and it's pretty quiet and keeps things nice for even an overclocked AMD FX-8150 4.3GHz (yes, I'm going to o.c. further, just give me some time, heh) And I'm a fellow gamer so no matter if you're playing Crysis 2 or Battlefield 3 for eight hours straight, you're smooth. I mean, if you do go with a large fan-only option, just make sure you have room, because I hear some of those things are gargantuan.

All good suggestions given here already, panais.

Go with the 850 watt PSU.
The 2500K, you can put the savings into GPU(s).
The Intel 520, Samsung 830, are good SSDs, as is the Intel 320.

Let us know what you decide.

I can second that case choice. i have the 600t special white edition, has a mesh window with mounts for four 120mm tunnels. It's great cooling and cable management and will fit pretty much everything

Friend of mine built his latest rig in a Corsair 600t and he has been very pleased with that case. Aside from the fan controller, which is apparently broken and doesn't work. He doesn't care enough about the problem to Corsair to get it replaced, as he assumes he will get sent a new case and would have to transplant his whole machine which he would rather not do.
