Having descided to not renew my Eset nod32 v.4 (good product, horrible tech support and tough to cleanly uninstall) I am looking @ the sheer speed of a malware client. I've used them all over the years. Currently I am looking @ Avast or Avg. Which do you fine fellow 7 users find more efficient in Win 7 rc 64 bit? I am (like I suspect many of you are) waiting for Morra. Until then I have to run something and I really do not want it dragging sys resources. I thank you for your time.

I use Avast. Did use MS Security Essentials, but I want to know what my apps are doing, so I went back to Avast. I use Avast solely because I have legal access to a license.

Use a fat HOSTS file that you manage.

What does tech support have to do with which app you choose, anyway? MS has horrible tech support but you use Windows. Many of my peers and superiors here use Eset nod32.

I use eset smart security 4.

Morro/MSSE - MS Security Essentials.
I was on ESET Security Suite 4 but I just got tired of it. MSSE works wonders and is very lightweight.

Oh! Well allow me to answer that. Superiors, you and Leo Laporte aside eset were complely rude and frankly dismissive of me when I explained to them thet their product was mistakingly targeting my facial recog sw as antiviral. I spent WEEKS (do you want the transcript? I will post) being treated like ****. Given the wrong routing method for them to analyze. Turns out the RECOMENDED method of Nod32 4 is not the correct prcedure. Nope. That send your file to Europe where they cannot "access it". So I spent the next week trying but never getting ananswer from them as to where and how to send the SW file for them to look at. They then told me to go elsewhere.
SO. My friend, tech support never is expected by me. But when something this basic fails si badly and has been so highly pimped, if an isssue does occur and I have paid them $130.00 for 2 pc's I want a DAMN answer. OK

I mean seriously where else can you get a 40mb application that has protection against malware that is greater than Kapersky?

ESET NOD32 has a small footprint and I believe it is the best paid for, security suite.

Believe it or not so does Norton 2009/2010, it has lost a lot of weight...shoulda won celebrity fit club. It so funny because I lost so much respect for Symantec for being such a hog I would never give it a try, even if it was free, however it has changed.

I used AVG free for a long time, I still do on a few home machines. Its very light weight and non intrusive.

I am using MSE now, mainly because I want to give it a shot.

I love and use avast, especially the boot scan. I only wish they had that option in the console where you can tell it to run a boot scan, then it will shutdown, then run the scan automatically while rebooting. Unless I missed it, someone show me. I wonder if MSE can run along side other AV software. I like teaming Hitman Pro, and Previx with my Avast.

I am also running a quasar gamatron flux capacitor with twin pulse tronic phasers......jk, I have no such stuff.
My advice is on these three products: Norton AV 2010, Kaspersky AV 2010. I like Kaspersky cause it never gave me much trouble and I like how it is very detailed. It has excellent detection rates, likewise Norton. However, Norton is less complicated/ user friendly. Huge User Base to help you out with. Quite fast tech support.

Trial out both of these and choose between the ones you like. Both are excellent though, I can assure you that.

If you would rather same money (like me), then go for this combination:

Comodo Firewall
Avira Antivir
Spybot Search & Destroy

This will be enough to protect you as long as you use Site advisers and don't visit sites with a reputation for malware.

I use MSE. It has been better then what i expected. I dont feel the bloat as i have previously with other programs. And it has been getting some great reviews about its detection rate.

Actually, no, it's not. In the many, many tests I have read while trying to decide on new security software, AVG was ranked one of the highest hogs of system resources.

I agree. AVG has (or so it seems) more resource hungry with every iteration. As Morra is currently not an option I am trying out avast. It seems to work fine. Funky interface and I like the idea of making the painful process of anti malwaring your machine fun. Watching Dollhouse last night on headphones and Avast startled me out of my pants by announcing it had up dated. I knew about the voice but did not see that one coming. Props for the unique moment in my very long pc life:D

I agree on the issue that Avg 8 is a memory hog, version 7 was ok. Off topic, anyone using Avast know to tell it to perform a boot scan? So far I only know about it doing that during initial installation.

here's what you need to do. Open avast and click on the control center icon and this menu will appear.

Schedule your boot scan timing and you're done. ;)
