Lightest Footprint Anti Malware

I have had the problem over the years looking for a good anti malware app which will not be a resource hog! I have tried several versions of solutions like Norton, Mccaffee, NOD32, Panda. I was almost fed up until I tried Kaspersky and Symantec Endpoint Protection. These both apps would supposedly detect the most virusses, and these are just the most light weight I tested on my system (which I had be4, you could notice the difference considerably between certain anti virus). So I recommend either of these.

What was wrong with ESET NOD32.
Some people may say it uses a bit more RAM than others - 40MB.
BUT Ive had it get a LOT less than 40MB, No kidding, under 1MB. As your RAM starts to go up, ESET will go down. Example:
If I have 75% free RAM, But then start playing Crysis, my RAM may drop to only 25% RAM left or below - When this happens, ESET somehow makes it RAM usage go down.
I installed ESET NOD32 on a computer from 1998, and it uses less than 1MB of RAM and sometimes 5MB when surfing the web - But still, amazing!

After being a Norton hater for the last couple of years, I turned back to it when the 2009 version was released.
I really liked the 2009 suite.

But the 2010 Internet Security suite is an absolutely brilliant product, very small footprint (12mb), installs in less than 60 seconds.

Very user friendly and very informative.

Most important, it never bothers you unless it really needs you to make a decision.
Firewall is the least obtrusive I ever experienced, and if needed very configurable.

When idle it starts scanning, but as soon as you move the mouse it immediately stops.
So basically you never notice it's there, until it finds a threat.



I read that Norton assembled a completely new team for the 2009/2010 product with only one mission.
To make the fastest security suite ever, and I can say they succeeded.

I like the new NIS 2010 also but still using KIS 2010 until my licence will expire.

You are asking about Lightest Footprint Anti Malware and everybody talking about antivirus and firewall.

You can use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.

thats a mis-conception. Open task manager and click on "Show process from all users" and you wil see that eset takes atleast 35-40 MB even if its sitting idle.

   Note

No AV can take just 1-2 MB.

Gamepro, I can say from my experience that my system was like noticeably slower with any of these AV products.

I notice on my Symantec Endpoint protection that it uses <=15MB of ram (in the background), all processes added up. Only when I open the user interface I get another process launched which takes up about 10MB, which isn't too bad (this doesn't seem slow compared to other AV products I tested). I must say that Norton AV(which is fused with Symantec) was a good product until the 2003 version. Every newer version I tested was a total disaster on resources! I'll give the 2009/2010 version a try if it is a whole lot better! Basically I think the av-definitions will be the same on SEP and the norton suite.
