Lightscribe won't write disk label

This question is allowed ....

Yes, the disk I try to label is a lightscribe compatible disc, and the dealer managed to write upon a disk from the self same package.

Besides of that, if I insert a non-lightscribe-disc (or forget to turn it upside down for labelling), the software detects that and protests.

Obviously there is something amiss in your system. I came across a beef related to MS C++ and light scribe. I think you should read this entire thread and see if it can be applied to your problem.

Nice tip - thanks. I've checked the runtime packages, and there was something odd. I've straightened that, but it didn't help. Besides of that, no error messages appear ... not as popup, nor in the event log.

BTW: I have VS2008 on that machine.

I was refering to MS C++. If lightscribe uses these packages one or more I don't know. But it sounds like (in that thread) it does. I have posted a clip of what my "installed programs and feaures" show on this rig.

I've restraightened that part (mostly: thown out the x86 packages, reinstalled the x64's and applied the freshest updates) and it now looks like the attached snippet.

Still doesn't work, as described.

System Specs

This will help some. At the bottom of your post you will see system specs. Click it and fill out your rigs specs as much of it as you can find. Also post the manufaturer of your rom dirve and some info on it. May be we can find something that way.

Better still, run the system health report and upload the HTML file as an attachment.

Ops! Forgot to mention that after you run the SHR, click on the File menu in the header then Save As. It will default to HTML. Just select a location and give it name. Upload it here.

Mine didnt work properly at first either, for whatever reason.

have you downloaded and installed the latest update? thats all I did and mine has worked flawlessly since.

And now just a matter of time till you find out what you broke by doing that. Most C++ entries in Programs and Features weren't put there or installed by Windows, but by whatever program you installed that requires them.

I did not, nor I've been was I prompted to ... in the meanwhile I did, but that changed nothing.

No problem - now I know they're not in the way ... I'll just reinstall them (have'm already dl'd).
