List of tested TV Tuner Cards

I was able to get Win 7, 64 bit Media Center to work with the AverMedia "Combo" tuner. (white box version-OEM) The card uses a PCI-e slot. I'm using it with an analog input signal.

I use the TV card for purposes of editing content, so I was disappointed to discover Media Center only produced wtv files, which are not very useful outside the MC environment. (I'll try the included editing suite later) I already had Corel VideoStudio for video editing, but it doesn't recognize the AverMedia card. Finally found CyberLink PowerDirector which DOES recognize the Avermedia card AND can produce avi, mpeg, etc files.

So, finally, I'm back to where I was with XP! (thankfully)
Hi snit3,
I'm unfamiliar with that oem combo card model, so unfortunately I can't add info on it to this list... Can you provide a link to it?

This might seem like a dumb question, but does the tuner affect the quality of the picture like how the graphic card does? I ask because I have full HD 1080p monitors with a radeon HD4670 graphics card, and my picture is still sub standard; the shows are dark. I have changed resolution up down left right and center, no joy.
Hi zay, no such thing as a dumb question mate :)
The tv tuner card does affect picture quality, but not in the way a graphics card does.
Use HDMI>DVI, then open Windows Media Centre, go to Tasks - Settings - TV and setup your tv or monitor.
There are other factors that could be affecting your picture quality. post back if it's still sub standard :)

Thanks Orpheous, I have been around the world and back with that. I went thru the settings, I select flat panel, then I select dvi for connection type. I even tried changing the resolution still no luck, and I hate that I get that black border around the edges. If I do full screen, then it is only on the sides. I know mc is only 16x9, and 22 inch is 16x10, but there is no setting in the list of resolutions for 16 x9 (unless I missed it). I keep asking myself, what would happen when I actually connect it to flat screen tv that is let's say 42". What tuner do you guys recommend? I wonder if I change my power supply to a more powerful one, if that might have some effect. I know as you start using more powerful graphic cards and stuff, you need a more powerful power supply. DVI requires more power than vga. My PS is about 450w.

Looks like a really neat package there! something I might consider for our home network. I haven't added it to the list though as strictly speaking it's not a TV Tuner Card, but thank you for letting us know that it does work with W7 :)

Could you update the Opening Post to include Ethernet Tuners? The more I hear about this particular piece of hardware the better and better it sounds, and since it's already listed in the thread it'd be nice if it were given some credit... :D

Zay,

There is some "ringing" on leading and trailing edges, but I'm not sure what's causing it yet. I'm using an analog (chan 3) signal from the RF output of a digital cable box, so things should improve when I change to base band inputs. It's not ideal, but it's OK for the moment.

You know guys, I am starting to think (yeah I might think too much :) ), If I am getting hd channels, and my tuner is not hd, then that might be why my shows appear dark on the screen even if my graphics card and monitor are hd ready. Is that a fair thought? I think I might get a hd tuner and see what happens. I have my eye on the Asus My Cinema EHD2-100. I know it is on the approved compatability list. Anyone of you guys used this card? What is your honest opinion and experience with this card, or any hd tuner card (dual)?

Thanks Orpheous for keeping this thread up to date. I would like to add that here in Canada, some features of my Tuner were disabled (clearQAM) while installing the Tuner in WMC. This is no fault of Windows, as I could spoof my location to a US zip and receive full features of the card (this is not a realistic option as every channel was named incorrectly in the guide, it was simply an experiment).

In fact, I don't receive any more channels with my HTPC TV Tuner card than I did using my TV as a tuner. Major advantage is being able to use the guide, and the record functionality.

Just thought I'd pass this along.

Thanks for the QAM info JulesAndAl, I'm unfamiliar with clearQAM myself, as far as I know it's not available here in Australia. I'll be sure to look into it during my next days off, and hopefully add some more info to this thread.

Thanks again! I'd rep you for the post, but I have to "spread some around first" :p

I just turned my computer into a media pc with Windows 7 (x64) Ultimate. I am using an ATI Tv WOnder HD 650 Dual Tuner card and a Pinnacle PCTV Remote Kit. Both are working great. Just plugged them in and installed the drivers.

The remote says it is for Vista but it works fine in 7 as well.

Got the tuner on woot for $25 with shipping and the remote on tiger.com for $35 with shipping.

I finally got around to buying a Family Upgrade Pack, and installed the x64 version on my HTPC, which consists of:
Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R motherboard
Sapphire Nvidia 8600GT 512Mb
2 X 2 Gb of Kingston DDR2 1066
DigitalNow DNTV Live! Dual Hybrid S2 PCI-E (DVB-T tuner)

The tuner card uses a Phillips chip, and the installed Windows 7 drivers originally caused a BSOD when scanning for channels in Media Center. The latest drivers from the DigitalNow site fixed the problem, and it's now running without issues (thankfully!).

WinTV Nova-T pci

I have Hauppuage wintv Nova-t pci card which has worked exceptionally well with every operating system I have had installed for over 4 years including Win 7 (64bit). I upgraded my system to an Intel i5 750 processor and Asus P7P55D motherboard and it now will not work. Have had numerous conversations with Hauppuage who claim it is fully compatible but even they are at a loss to find reason. Media Centre says no tuner present yet system says there is, all drivers and software are installed and correct. Worked fine with Win 7 right up to upgrade. Still have Vista 32 on separate hard drive and will not work with this either so it must be related to motherboard /processor, any ideas?
Brian

One of the great features of Windows 7 is the built in Windows Media Center. So if you have one currently installed and it's recognised by WMC, or if it's not recognised by WMC, please add your card to this list and I'll update it as often as I can.
It would be great if we could have the following information:
Manufacturer - Model - 32bit or 64bit OS - A &/or D (Analog &/or Digital)- Connection type (USB/PCI-E/PCI)
also, if the card works on W7 with third party software, please include the program name and version if possible.

Hi All :)
When a use Windows 7 RC1 x64 (Ultimate) with card Pinnacle PCTV 701iX card works fine (DVB-T, DVB-S, FM).
A few days ago I bought copy Windows 7 Home Premium x64 oEM (with media Center) and installed it.
Unfortunatelly works ONLY DVB-S, with DVB-T stations only black screen - no any error messages.
View my model: http://www.pressebox.de/attachment/19063/Pinnacle_PCTV_7010iX.jpg
