local area con/ion doesn't have a valid ip/the default gateway is...

Hi there
I have a problem and i don't know where else to address about it.
As it seems from the title i get these two notification with my internet. To be more specific it's these two:
Local area connection doesn't have a valid ip address
and The default gateway is not available.

I tried several things from other posts but that was unsuccessful like:
Disabling and enabling my network adapter and trying to find a Bonjour thing in my services.

How i am connected:
The basic modem connects through wire to another Ethernet switch and from there i go with an ethernet cable to my PC. {i also have a wireless router connected there for wifi connection to be available but that doesn't seem to be a problem for me}
Anyway i found to unplug the switch to be working most of the times to be working.

"the reason i use a switch is because i am subscribed to some channels from my internet company that the tv-box must have a static ip if i am correct and connecting it directly to the wireless router found not to be working"

An idea that's crossing my mind is to change the switch but i wanted to get a second opinion before i spend any money!!

Welcome to Seven Forums,

It should properly work if it's setup this way: Modem>Router>Switch>Computers and other network devices. Please verify your setup again.
Also, is your Modem perhaps a Modem/Router or a gateway or just a plain Modem?
You will need to verify that all power cables and ethernet cables are connected properly to the assigned plugs/ports. Connect a patch network cable between the Modem output port and the Router’s WAN or Internet Port. Connect a patch network cable from one of the router’s LAN or Ethernet Ports to each device that will use a wired connection.

Well it's the other way around actually it's: Modem>Switch>Computer so the router only works for Wi-fi, i haven't though of connecting to the Router first and leave the switch for TV purposes only.
MY modem i don't know the difference between the two to answer your question, though it's provided by my internet provider which is a Speetouch Thomson ST585.
The wiring from the Modem to my switch is through the walls which an electrician did, so i don't know if it's possible to make any changes right now.

I will try your suggestion and let you know.

Actually now that i've thought about it, i can't do it as suggested because if the modem connects first to my router and then to the switch then the TV-box won't work, that's why it's connected to the switch and then to the router!!

If this is your Modem, it's actually an ADSL and also a Modem/Router, so what you have currently setup is correct which is Modem/Router>Switch>Computer. Any additional routers should be connected to the Modem's ethernet port (disable DHCP then assign Static IP within the IP range).

Now, back to your wired issue, the modem provided by your ISP should have 4 ethernet ports, have you tried bypassing the switch and connect your computer to one of the ethernet ports?

Edit: Can you please post an ipconfig /all output while your computer is connected to the switch?

I think i have confused you a bit!!

Speedtouch>Switch>PC (the Belkin router goes for wi-fi purposes only because of the t.v i only use a switch so if i connect to the Belkin router i have to go through the switch first

So the Speetouch from my provider is downstairs and from there goes the wiring inside the walls which comes to my bedroom and it goes to the switch, from the switch there goes to my computer. I also have a Belkin wi.router but is only for wi-fi purposes.
So before we go any further and do anything just let me know if we are on the same page.

No, I wasn't confused bec the Speedtouch is also a router.
I still need to see the ipconfig/all output please while the computer is wired and one output (it can be any computers from your network) while wireless connected.
