Location of My Pictures

I used Easy Transfer to move from an XP Box to a new Win 7 PC. Everything transferred OK, with most stuff going to C:/users/John where I'd expect it. However the old "My Pictures" fetched up in the Pictures Library. Its Location tab under Properties tells me that the actual location is "C:\Users\John\Local Settings\Pictures".
The trap is that I can't find any such location. Unhiding hidden files & folders reveals that "C:\Users\John\Local Settings" exists only as as a shortcut (I assume a Junction Point) to which I'm denied access even though I'm using an administrator account.
Any ideas on how I might be able to have my Pictures appear in my main folder? Is it safe just to Move them (right click) from the Library or must one be more careful?

My Pictures in Windows 7 for you is C:\Users\John\Pictures.

And a Library isn't really a location. It just puts together many locations into one category. For example if you have music on two hard drives and you add them both to the "Music" library, you can browse them both at the same time by entering the "Music" library.

Thanks Fred. I agree that C:\Users\John\Pictures is where I expected to find the files; however no such folder exists. I can still see the image files via Library but I can't access them (including backup) from C:\Users\John. Any ideas? John

Did you upgrade from Vista or did you buy/build this machine with 7 pre-installed?

2. I can access my pictures via the Library. I can also see them in Desktop/John, but not anywhere in C:/users/John

Hello John !!

Try the following Microsoft KB You receive an "Error 1606" error message when you try to install or remove a Microsoft program and run Microsoft Fixit I know the KB might sound strange but when you use the East transfer to PC Mover those software sometime mess up the User Shell folders but this will restore to orignial Windows 7 settings. That should resolve your issue with Pictures Location.

I have a backup of the pictures. I'm beginning to think that the best way may be to restore those to a Pictures I create for myself in C:\users\John. However I'm reluctant to do this because it will further confuse the Search routine

Well, what I think you should do is copy the windows.old folder somewhere off the computer or to another hard drive/partition and just reinstall Windows/restore to factory settings.

So if I understand you correctly you don't have Pictures under Libraries ??

Sorry - I wasn't clear enough. Running FixIt deleted the "My Pictures" entry in Library\Pictures (leaving "Public Pictures" as the only sub-folder). After reporting that and the subsequent loss of access in my previous message I decided to Restore to the pre FixIt state. That recovered access to the jpg's and associated sub-folders. I then did what I should have done in the first place - just moved the image files from the Public area into a newly created folder "Pictures" in "C:\users\John\" That seems to have worked OK. After I've run a full back up tonight I'll run FixIt again to get rid of the (by then) unwanted "My Pictures" subfolder in the Pictures Library (or should I just try deleting it?)
