Hi guys. you all have helped me in the past and now i have another problem. My PC locks up almost daily if i use it to a mild to heavy degree. I don't know why. what i mean is, if i do things like watch a video, or run a virus scan, or a demanding game my PC just locks. i have to press the restart switch so that i can reboot it. it seams to be fine if i leave it alone not doing anything, although it sometimes locks up this way. its getting very frustrating and i really need it to be fixed. thanks in advance.

I believe the problem is one of my programs that are running in the background. I have turned off all the ones I can and I haven't had a lock up yet. I'm currently zipping a big folder as a test.

I'm running Prime95 CPU stress test to see if I can get a freeze but to my amazment it's running fine. All my background programs are up and I've been testing for about 30 minutes now. Usually I lock up sooner than that at less load.

Temperature question. Gor my CPU, an intel Q9300, is 75c ok for a stress test? I have Real Temp to monitor my temperature and it says my temp is 70-75 degrees. Also is says the distance to TJ max is 25-30 degrees.

Ok so, it locked up after about an hour o testing. I'm gonna turn off all background programs and see if it locks again.

I take it that no one has any ideas yet.

My computer locked this time too. I had no background programs up. This time, however, the screen was black and I couldn't get it to show the desktop.

One two side notes that I don't know if they are related, Every now and the I get a serene flicker flowers by a message "nvidia driver has stopped working and has recovered". Also my monitor usually automatically turns off but lately it doesn't. I did notice that it began to work again when I turned off all of my background programs.

With no dump file... This takes some guessing.

This kind of freezing could very well be related to the nvidia problems.
Please try deleting all nvidia stuff. First the normale way and finish off by using Driversweeper in Safe mode.
Reboot and install the latest drivers for your card, downloaded from nvidia.com.
Only drivers... Not all the other stuff.

Finally someone replied lol.

fist off, i ran another test with Prime95 and it lock up at 1 hour into the test. i also ran graphics card stress test, MSI Kombuster, and FurMark. Both test turned out good.

im running one last CPU stress test with no programs up. i tweaked some power management settings so ill see what happens.

As far as what u said MvdB, ive already done that in the past with no success. however, i will try it again if i lock up after this current Prime95 test.

i think that i will reinstall windows after i try a few more things. i didnt have these problems in the beginning so when i reinstall win 7 i will do stress tests and make sure the problem is gone before i get back to reinstalling everything.

thanks for replying MvdB, its really nice to have someone to bounce ideas off of :D

Never mind my last post, the problem remains. I'm doing backups right now so that I can reinstall windows tomorrow. If the problem still persists them I know it's one of three things. 1, hardware. 2, software with windows. Or 3, windows and hardware compatibility. I post before I reinstall. If anyone has an idea before I reinstall windows, please let me know.

Yes... well I would try a run with Driver verifier first.
Have you looked at that? It isn't a 100% proof but gives a good chance of hunting a faulty driver.
+... just to be sure.... MANY people THINK they have re-installed NVIDA but actually have not because they were unable to really un-install the previous version. Have you checked , by checking installed versions of the driver that you're really running only the new stuff + ONLY the driver and not all the other NVIDIA stuff that is provided on their site (like automatice updaters etc?)

And, again without having your system details this is a guess but the second reason for much freezing is old or faulty drivers on USB things like smartcardreaders. If you have one, disable it fully to test.
