Logon Screen Help!

I've looked everywhere and found no solution for this, so I was hoping by posting about it, I could (hopefully) get some help.

I'm running windows7 home premium 64-bit operating system. There is only one user account set up in this computer (which, of course my user account). When I click on "Add or remove user accounts", there is only two user showing. One would be mine, and the other, a guest account, under which is written "Guest account is off'.

The problem is: I have to click on the user account before being able to type my password upon logon.

It's not really a huge problem, but I'm just wondering why.

My other friends don't have this problem. They only have one user account as well, and whenever their pc/notebook gets to the welcome screen, the default user is automatically selected and all they have to do is type in their account password.

But not for me. I have to click on my account, and only after that the user account picture zooms in and the password-input box appears. The same thing happens when I "lock" (Win + L) my computer. I have to click on the small user picture before the whole thing zooms in and the password input box appears. It doesn't happen on my friend's notebook.

I tried to compare almost everything but I couldn't figure out for the love of god what is wrong with my notebook. I ran netplwiz and found out there is a "GUEST" account which I cannot remove. My friend who is not having the same problem as I do, do not have this guest account in his "netplwiz". Could this be the 'cause of the issue?

How can I remove this guest account? I don't even know how/why that existed. I've never turned on the guest account before and this is the only thing I think is causing the problem.

Help, anyone?

Hello Coretanabstrak, and welcome to Seven Forums.

After turning off the Guest account, it should remove it from Advanced User Accounts after closing and reopening.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

It's already turned off. I even tried turning it on then back off again but it doesn't work  It says "Guest account is turned off" but in the advanced user accounts (netplwiz) window it's still showing.

I can't find any advanced tab after clicking "Manage User Accounts". Am I missing something here? (I'm running windows7 home premium 64bit - can't access local users/groups or that lusrmgr thingy if that's what you're referring to)

Hmm..

Go to start > run.

Type "control userpasswords2" without the quotes and hit enter.

Do you have the Advanced tab?

Yeah, and then I clicked on "advanced" again and it says...

This computer is running windows 7 home premium. This snapin may not be used with this version of windows. To manage user accounts for this computer, use the User Accounts tool in Control Panel.

Heck, I'm not entirely sure that this "guest" thingy is the main cause. It's just my speculation so far.

Again, I know it's not really a huge problem, but it's just annoying having to click on my user account (the one and only user account that shows up in the logon screen, by the way) before being able to type in my password.

And I would rather NOT use the auto login feature :(

Thank you, I'll look forward for the good news :D

You have Windows 7 Home Premium, so you will not be able to do this through Local Users and Groups like in OPTION THREE of the tutorial below, except for Guest instead. :(

Yeah. It's funny why this happened to me and not my friends though. I've never even activate/turned on/logged on the guest account before.

Did you right click on the command shortcut and click on "Run as administrator" first?

Yes I did (edited my previous post)

I restarted. It did remove the "guest" from that "control userpasswords2" window.

The problem isn't solved though. I still have to click on the only user account I have before being able to type my password in

This thing has been driving me crazy for the past month :(

Double check to make sure that you still have your user account set to log on automatically at startup. If you do, then turn it off, apply, then turn it back on to see if that may help.

I didn't set my user account to automatically log on because.. Well, it says that I have to uncheck the "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" box, and I assumed that if that box is unchecked, my computer will no longer be password protected.

But I'll try that anyway. I'll post the results then.
