long boot time... maybe drivers...

hello again! It's so sad that i just posted yesterday that i installed a fresh win7... today, i looked up to this thread again using my mobile phone and found that thing called xperf... hey, thanks man, it might be very handy... so yesterday, my laptop was lightning fast after my normal 3rd party program installations so i decided to back it up with EASEUS ToDoBackup... today, my laptop went crawling like lame or maybe worse than lame... so i decided to use xperf, but response time was so slow i couldn't even open the startmenu! so i opted to restore using the easeus... by which i accidentally deleted my partitions... now... i got NOTHING! But thanks to TESTDISK i was able to recover the partition table... table only... no more data... but no worries mates! i've been through this twice... so this is the third time... i really hope someone can give a get around solution for me... win7 is great but i think it doesn't like me... tried to install win xp but i get the bsod just before the actual install...

I am not an expert but there are a few things that occur to me.

1. whenever you reinstall you immediatley make other changes as well.
Why not reinstall and wait. Is it windows 7 itself that is causing problems,
or the hardware, or is it the further changes that do this. Dont make a
restore point either at this time.

2. If it stays stable make 1 change only and repeat.

3. This will take a while but may isolate a problem.

4. Was this machine second hand or new? Do you know that the installed
version of 7 was stable at the start? You are resintalling the same version
so there may be an existing problem with it. If you made recovery disks they
may have errors if you burned them at high speed (AFAIK).

I have spent the last week or so on more trivial problems with installing
and I realise how frustrating these things are.

yes! you figured me out! so yeah... i'm gonna try your trick... well, to answer your questions:
1. it was very stable when i was in Berlin since i bought this laptop the day before i went there... i had only a few programs back then and my laptop didn't even go slow while i was there...
2. the slowing effect takes an average of 3 days so installing them one at a time should take about a month... this should lead to #3 so that i can identify the problem...
4. this is a new one, in fact, i bought it around the 1st week of april 2010... i know win7 here was stable since i went to Berlin with it and returned home a month after with not even a single slowdown... no prob with disks, i have pqservice partition... i'm from the Philippines btw...nice to meet you aquarian! i'll hope i can still find this thread again for updates... thanks!

ok... so i did a fresh install last night and added nothing else... so it's just win7 and its default blobs... and then, just now (which means 24 hours later...) it just stops at 'Starting Windows'... so win7 was unstable for me after all the reinstallations... what do i do now?

Test the ram

Do you have 2 different types of ram in your machine? Someone else may
know if that can be a problem. Your specs suggest this.

yes... i actually bought another 2GB RAM and installed it right after i bought that laptop... I know BIOS sees it by pressing F2... and Win7 too by clicking on the My Computer properties...

right now I removed the 2GB extra RAM... I'm gonna be reinstalling Win7 again through the recovery disks, not through the pqservice partition... I know the crash is gonna go around the corner, but i'm not giving up on it, although i was actually thinking of sending that laptop to a service station already... i won't install the normal applications for aquarian's suggestion...

ok richc46, i subscribed to it...

so i downgraded my RAM by removing that extra 2GB... Now i have only Chrome installed and it's pretty stable... at least i don't see any problems except that it's so slow... slower than my experience with xp before... any tips for that? oh yeah, i haven't tried that boottrace...

hello again!

as of now, my laptop is pretty stable... it only has this chrome installed with the rest of the default win7 home basic applications from the default factory settings...

oh and btw, it boots fast... i'm still verifying if my laptop can hold up its stability for like another day or so... i hope it does! (",)

concerning that boot trace, i actually downloaded it and installed it into my laptop, i did the boot option there but my laptop then went restarting over and over again... i opted the startup repair which fixed it... when i booted successfully to win7, windows told me that the error was a blue screen... so there... i can't use that tool for now...

although i was able to boot fast, this thing bothers me: when i click on START -> All Programs, the whole thing is slow... first a blank... then the texts... then the icons in a white paper like picture... then the real icons show up one batch at a time...

hey richc46, did i mention that i used the scanning thing to the classpnp.sys driver? well, it's ok... i just thought that i forgot to tell you there's nothing wrong with it... it's just the screen stuff for the safe mode boot which is taking a long time before... now it's quite ok...

so i've been working with aquarian's plan of installing one application at a time... so far, i'm in a hurry and able to install chrome, vlc media player, and foxit reader... i found that whenever i opened my winrar application, which doesn't need a reinstall, my laptop just goes slow... so i downloaded the latest one which is the 3.93 64-bit version... and it goes just fine...

so the culprit was the unupdated winrar application... i do hope i'll be able to install the other apps as well with the stability i have now...

hi, I personally use 7z for all compressed files. I will also recommend CCleaner for cleaning your registry and HD
both are free and light weight and FileHippo.com - Download Free Software is my no1 site for best free apps.

Btw. What is your hd, SSD is a good way to speed up a slow laptop(if u have 100 quid)

@aquarian: I'm currently running on 2GB only... not 4GB anymore since I removed that extra 2GB... not really an issue...

@mike009: yeah, winrar3.93 64-bit is good enough for me already... thanks for the suggestion... the record of the CCleaner application for my win7 removed some registry values... i kinda liked it when i had xp but i can't confirm its compatibility with win7... last time i used it with win7, i had to use the startup repair... And i'm also planning to buy a memory stick for the readyboost functionality... they say it's very useful...

i have installed other appplications as well and my laptop is slow to respond now... i'm gonna do that xbootmgr again... but below is the boot trace i had BEFORE...

MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service

i'll post my current boot trace afterwards...

Question on your trace - it appears that userinit started at the 30.5 second mark, and your explorer.exe shell at 30.9 seconds. Are you saying you don't see explorer or the shell at ~30 seconds after boot? I also see werfault.exe loading multiple times after processes end (most notably 3 other explorer.exe's), so I'm wondering specifically what you have installed. Also, I see a ton of readyboost misses and fltmgr.sys and ntfs.sys hits throughout this whole boot, including some very high CPU and disk I/O from the system (kernel representation) process.

If I didn't know any better, I'd say you have installed a filter driver that doesn't like something about your system when it goes above 2GB perhaps.

thanks for the analysis... i don't understand all of it though but i'll try to tell you what i understood from that.. so you mean i installed a program that my laptop can't handle... then because of that, it generates many misses on readyboost and other fltmgr.sys, ntfs.sys, high cpu, and i/o errors... and yes, i see my wallpaper around 35 sec... btw, i've PM'd you the second boottrace link... i think this analysis is the 1st one since it has the 35 sec boot... the 2nd boottrace is a bit problematic... a simple analysis of it will do since i already formatted my laptop to factory default with recovery disks... i won't be able to heal it 'cause i resurrected it hahaha... at least it's good to know why...thanks again cluberti!
