This horrendous story started from an horrendously terrible way.
This actually happened to me.
I had upgraded to Windows 10 about 3 months ago and I had this desktop for about 1 year before upgrading to Windows 10.
Specs:
- Windows 10 Pro x64 and Windows 7 Ultimate x64
- AMD FX-4180 Quad-Core 3.8 GHz
- 8 GB DDR3
- WD Blue 1TB 7200RPM HDD
- Read/Write CD and DVD drive
- Asus motherboard
- Onboard grahpics

Things to note:
- HDD was partitioned into D drive and C drive
- Everything worked normally before this happen (for about a year)
- D drive was bitlocker encrypted
- I upgraded to Windows 10
- Installation disc is fine (not corrupted or any malware)
- No malware
- Microsoft Security Essentials for my antivirus

Then all of a sudden, Windows 10 crapped out, and everything was not responding (explorer.exe, chrome.exe, etc.)
I press the reset button...
Windows 10 boots up with a disk checker.
Then the "Choose Keyboard Layout" screen appears with it not responding to any input.
I started trying to fix the computer multiple times (windows 10 start up repair, windows diagnostics test, CHKDSK, sfc /SCANNOW, update video driver, etc.)
But nothing works.
So, I tried to reinstall windows 10 and it said my drive was Bitlocker encrypted (my D drive was, not my C drive).
I tried using my password and my key was save on the C drive (which I could not access).
Didn't work.
Open command prompt and entered "manage-bde -unlock D: -password"
Cmd asks for password... I enter the right password.
"Failed to decrypt with password"
Repeat 10x with no success.
:mad::mad::mad::mad:
So install windows 7... no problems
Success!
So I shutdown my computer
The next day, I boot up windows, log in and: "Personalized Settings Not Responding"
Check the HDD light is off, press reset button.
BIOS Splash screen -> Starting Windows -> Black Screen of Death (blank screen with a movable cursor)
Reset again and same thing happens.
Again, I kept trying to fix the computer (windows 7 start up repair, windows diagnostics test, CHKDSK, sfc /SCANNOW, update drivers, etc.)
NOTHING
Chkdsk had nothing to report, sfc /SCANNOW found nothing, start up repair did nothing, and system restore couldn't start.
I thought that this was a hardware problem.
Live boot from usb with ubuntu linux, no problem.
Everything worked correctly.
I suspected a corrupted hard drive (all my data I wanted was backup on google drive).
So I reinstalled Windows and deleted all partitions and created a new one.
SAME PROBLEMS HAPPENED AGAIN!!!
:banghead:
Wipe the HDD with DBAN on Live usb.
Nothing is left on the HDD (no viruses, malware, bad registry, or any data. just a field of zeros).
Reinstalled windows 7 with .iso from Microsoft.
Boots up fine... restart... log in... (two minutes later)... "Microsoft Windows Not Responding"
:mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2:
But two minutes of waiting later... everything is back to normal (so I wrote this to ask for help)
If you have any idea of why my computer is abnormal, please tell me.
I will use my laptop to keep you updated if anything else happens

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
Quite a wild ride
Good reason not to use bitlocker
A better reason not to upgrade still using bitlocker without decrypting first :(

Yep 10 killed 1 hdd during testing for me and that was that for a little while until I got cheap one to continue testing with,
The one 10 killed was nearly 6 y.o. so it wasn't much of a loss but was a wake up call :)

Not sure what to say beside try a new hdd :/

I used bitlocker after upgrading to windows 10, so windows 7 couldn't decrypt it.
I also used darik's boot and nuke to wipe out the hdd.
Should have fixed it, but who knows.
I just so frustrated that I couldn't figure what went wrong.

Hi,
Very few people here use bitlocker
Most will go out of their way to make sure no additional system reserved partitions are installed so bitlocker can encrypt anything even by accident.
One feature I wish was not included in pro... versions
Should be a totally seperate download imho as you found out exactly why ;)
