Looking for a better blu-ray software

I have an external Blu-ray player (the brand is LG), and it originally came with PowerDVD 10. However, that software has been getting on my nerves so I want a replacement. I've been at WinDVD Pro 11, as well (even though I don't know why) PowerDVD 13 Ultra. But I wanted to ask any of you guys what Blu-ray software is the best, and affordable, to get? I'm not looking for anything fancy; just something to play the discs, and won't get on my nerves on playing or updates, etc.

That was easy, lol. I dl-ed the trial version, but what will happen when the 10 days are up? Plus, it has "unregistered version" on the screen from the player, how can I turn that off?

After 10 days, you'll be prompted to purchase. But, look at it this way, you have 10 days to review their product before purchase. As far as, the on-screen message about it being a trial version, well the only way to get rid of that is to buy it.

Download.com, has several freeware and shareware Blu-ray players you can test. I'd suggest you give them a try. But, I'd remove each one after your finished with it, before downloading another. Otherwise, you might end up with a software conflict.

Okay I'll keep that in mind. I'm liking Aiseesoft, even though it seems you can only access the features through chapter tracks, and guess that the one you want has that running time. I might buy that, but how reliable are they in terms of me paying them?

But on the topic of download.com; has anyone tried any of these players:
blu ray player downloads - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com

And yes, Cyberlink PowerDVD is on there too, but I wouldn't want to try that.

How often do you plan to watch Blu-ray movies on your computer? If no a lot, then you might be fine with freeware or trial versions. I would not be in any hurry to buy the first one that comes along. VLC player does Blu-ray and it is freeware. As long as you have the Blu-ray hardware to support it. I myself have never used an external optical drive. So, you might want some other advice about that from another member who has had experience with those. Your issue may be with having an external player, and not the software. It's been awhile since I used any of the freeware players, other than VLC. I used to use DVDFAB a lot, back in my DVD days. But, now stream or download everything to external HDDs. When I want to watch one of my saved movies. I just plug up the HDD and sent the movie to my Blu-ray home theater on my wireless home network.

I do have VLC, but no matter what I do, even with directions to do so, I can never find a way to play BDs on VLC. Only DVDs, and that's it. If Aiseesoft is still playable after the time is up, well then I'll be fine regardless, it's just the watermark that's annoying. It's the possibly of a better alternative that's why I'm asking around here.

Not sure why VLC is not working for you.

Aiseesoft will stop working when the trial ends.

Don't know how much those commercial Blue-Ray player apps cost, but Nero is pushing Version 14 pretty hard. Although they didn't say it, I found out that version 12 Platinum came with a Blue-Ray player. You might be able to get version 12 Platinum pretty cheap these days.

One "free" way around it is to use MakeMKV to extract the BluRay main track as an MKV file. These can be played with many free players such as SPlayer Portable. If subtitles are not an issue this can be very straightforward. Also it's really better to read from an image than from the hardware player on the PC. Less wear and tear and heat. But if you watch a lot of foreign films as I do then the subs can be a pita to mess with.

Another alternative is one of those drive decrypter programs that allow you to play the video with any player or copy the video files onto the HD.

I want to bump this back up, because I'm still looking for a BD software for my computer. I recently dl-ed a free trial version of Corel WinDVD Pro, and I don't know what happened, but it started to freeze a bit after I hit play.

I also want to know how to successfully use VLC to play Blu rays, something I have tried and fail numerous times.

Thanks

If you decide to go commercial, ArcSoft Total Media Theater is my choice.

I got ArcSoft, and I'm really liking it so far. Maybe that's the one :D

I just need to know where is the safest secure place to buy it once the trial ends (unless I can still use it after the trial ends). There's amazon.com for example; also, when you click on ArcSoft it says that if you want to end the trial, you need to enter your e-mail and activation code. Obviously, I don't have the code.

You need to add codecs to your VLC player. I suggest CCCP - Combined Community Codec Pack I myself use this to watch Blue-Ray movies all the time. If CCCP is not enough ( though it should be ) you can also get K-Lite Mega Codecs Pack from Free-Codecs.com | Download K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 10.1.5 just pay close attention when if you need 32 or 64 bit, and while installing, they like to add things like toolbars etc etc just decline those and you will be ok. I have been using both those for years without any hiccups. But like I said CCCP should be enough.

Gotta have at least 1!
It didn't do the trick. ArcSoft seems to be the way to go. I need to know the answer from what I asked above

The AACS libraries and KEYDB.cfg must be in specific folders for VLC to play BDs. That's all I can say on the matter. :zip:
